  1. Thanks Don! The wife is going to show this to her High School kids. She's a teacher and loves stuff like that.
  2. A ballast resistor acts like a voltage regulator for the points. Keeps 'em from burning up. If you don't have one, that might be what's causing all the grief..
  3. I just bought one for the front brake at NAPA. Cost $1.19 and can be easily reworked to fit. They are a bit to long for the front but might fit as is for the back brakes.
  4. Sounds like another mechanic might be in order too. Assuming the starter is a 6 volt, i'd have them both load tested. If the battery flunks get a new 1000 CCA ( 'bout $85 'round here) take it home and put a slow trickle charger on it till fully charged. Most batteries come of the shelf at about 75 - 80% charge. We used to charge em before installing them back in the olden days..This will add a bunch of life to an otherwise good battery. The starter, as you described it, is in better shape then mine and mine works. You might try jumping it at the solenoid. If it cranks good then check out the ign. sw and the associated wiring to and from it. Won't hold and idle....worn out throttle shafts leaking air??
  5. Ditto ruth.........I could hardly move the lever with everything disconnected. Lots of pb blaster and wd40 shot at lever/column and where it passes thru the firewall grommet fixed it......
  6. I used a Snap-On unit that bolted on as usual but had a 10lb. weight attached that was rigged as a slide hammer. Two or three whacks did it. And, no damage done to end of axle.
  7. Are you guys using steel or brass plugs? The brass last much longer. I had a leaker on the back of the block by the flywheel and now the engine is on my engine stand waiting to be cleaned up, new freeze plugs and clutch installed. I'm going to replace the trans seals as well.
  8. Ahhhh the things you can do with a wrecked ford....should be listing this as a PlyFord......Hackers...this is what happens when you spend to much time in the sun with no hat on!!
  9. Just have someone step on the brake pedal and put an ohm meter on the two terminals on the switch. You should get a reading if it's good.
  10. When I pulled my rear drums, I borrowed one from the local high school. It is an old Snap On. It has a slide hammer arrangement instead of the hit and swear type that is more common. And does it work nice!! Just a couple of pops and it's done!! Cost $500+ when new but probably less on ebay now. Wish i'd took some pics..
  11. Very nice....congrats to the both of you. I kinda favor the pic of the two of you in sittin in the bed of the pick up...sorta says it all!!
  12. after the bleed, you could put a hose on that air fitting and run that to a remote reservoir. Worked for me!
  13. I've never been able to figure out why all the mistreatment of returning viet nam vets.....after all, most from that era were drafted, they had no choice how and where the military would utilize them...just the opposite today. Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day...we are going to go watch a parade!!
  14. Just measured my w/p. Shaft size is 1.124" or 1 1/8". This is for the pump on my '51 cranny. Looks like Flex-a-Lite might have what you're looking for. cheers!
  15. The way I heard was: "Old age and treachery will overcome youth and enthusiasm."
  16. Congrats to you and your new bride!! Hope to meet you both some day...... Gerry
  17. Especially the bell crank. It bolts to the frame and hooks up the pedal linkage to the push rod that goes to the throw out fork. Mine was really bad and had to hve it welded up and new holes drilled. Nice and tight now.
  18. Thanks for the edumacation....I thought it was missing a plug or something.. Onward!!!
  19. Wow!...I'm in the middle of replacing that same plug. trans came out today, clutch f'wheel and bell housing manana. So just had a few ??'s answered by this post...thanks guys!! Quick question...the trans tipped forward on the way out and oil poured out the front of it....why and what's the fix??? thanks......Gerry
  20. Sell it to me for $105 and we both win....But, if you decide to change it, swap out the non vac dizzy for one from a car as it will have an advance curve that will stop at around 3300 rpm or so. Not good for gittin down the road.... Just my 2 sense!
  21. I think Valvoline makes some 50wt racing oil that should also work.
  22. Ditto.......the 7000 mi does seem a bit fishy. Also, at that price, make sure the floors and trunk are rust free....
