  1. This one was my favorite, the craftsmanship was outstanding and the owner carved all of the adornments on the boat as well as the main rebuild after it was burnt.
  2. Took the family to the maple bay wooden boat show held the May long weekend every year. Lots of really nice boats, I think the oldest was a converted work boat built in 1912. I don't know anything about boats but enjoyed the craftsmanship and the romantic idea of sailing around, however I got the impression from every boat owner I talked to that owning a boat was just buying a lifetime of maintenance work. I thought maybe some of you would enjoy the pics.
  3. Nice car. I agree with dpollo, the drive would be a great memory maker.
  4. The paint looks good, he must be happy. It's funny I always think that when you get to the paint stage you're almost done, but really you're just starting. Lots of work left, oh well only thing to do is keep your head down and keep plugging away. We had a farm helper that used to say "when your weeding never look to the end of the carrot row" it keeps ya from being discouraged.
  5. Thanks, hoping for a longer run this weekend.
  6. Managed to get out for a short shake-down run this weekend (30 Km). Overall car ran better than I expected although with very little upholstery is was loud and rattly inside. The T5 conversion shifts well managed 90+ Kph before we "chickened". The steering on this car is great, light but very positive, I don't see any point in messing with it although I'm comparing it with the steering in my 51 Chevy pickup. I even got the "missus" to drive it so I could shoot some crappy cell phone video linked here:
  7. Thanks Bill. I've always wanted white walls on this car, although I wish these were a little taller with more a old school Bias ply white wall look but definitely better than the "good from far and far from good" painted tires I had on before during the envisioning process. The problem is with the hub caps I planned on using the eye sees the rear tires as way too small, it's not as noticeable with the caps off. Probably better anyways I was getting tired climbing down into ditches to retrieve the caps.
  8. She was a farmer's daughter an all the cow man-knew-her.
  9. I kinda agree with the above, on mine I used a level, magnetic angle finder and some bent rod to " rough in" camber and toe, then it's off to the alignment shop.
  10. That's AWESOME!!!! Way to start em out!
  11. The plymouth came back from the glass shop a couple of weeks ago but due to our earlier than usual spring we've been so busy in 1st cut silage (even made some hay!) that I haven't had time to do anything else but farm. Today I finally found time on my lunch break to drive it out side and wash and take a few pictures. This afternoon I'm going to bale some more hay and if that goes well then tomorrow...TEST DRIVE!!! Hopefully I'll have pictures, maybe a video of a trouble free drive, otherwise depending on how big the part was that fell off you may or may not get to see.
  12. Either that's a huge gas fill door or a really small drill! Middle picture of the gas door made me do a double take. Again very nice work.
  13. Mike does very nice work also. Another craftsman from SoCal. The part of the build where paint gets sprayed is always exciting. Can't wait for the next instalment.
  14. Sorry to hear Don. Seems this sort of thing is starting to happen with more frequency to the oldtimers and I HATE hearing it. Take care of yourself and glad to hear you're going to stick around the forum.
  15. Yup, welding that lower plate to the manifold is not going to be fun! I imagine the manifold is too thin to drill and tap into allowing you to bolt the 1st plate with a perimeter of countersunk allen heads?
  16. I like that! Recycling or re-purposing at it's finest!
  17. I know what you mean about the "black hole" seem like you only have to detail the top half of the engine in a 40, the bottom half can be " barn fresh" oil leaks and all. Crazy spot for a bolt through. On the farm a BFH a lot of the time is the tool of choice, usually followed by the saying " oh so that's how it comes apart". I'm going to definitely keep watching.
  18. Can't wait! Do we have a "home" for the acquisition?
  19. Well, that's a good pitch to keep them. I guess I'll continue to waffle for a while. Lol
  20. That's cool, so you would see the screw head if it was done right. I've never noticed any in a door panel before anybody got pics? Since they don't seem to be structural and I didn't use them to install the door handles the 1st time I may leave them out. Thanks
  21. So you didn't reinstall them? It would look smoother without them but my brother-in-law is a big man and I don't want to see the handle ripped off the door because they're important to the integrity of the assembly and I didn't use them. Mostly just wondering how they're supposed to look normally then I'll decide how I'm going to use them.
  22. Started making up the door panels, I'm lucky that the old ones came with the car even though when I got the car there wasn't much door left for them to cling to. I used as them as trace templates for the new panels. Kind funny, 19 clips plus the door handle, window crank and armrest to hold the door panel on and just the window crank to hold on the rear compartment panel. Before I add anymore holes or complexity I'm wondering about the screw that goes into the shaft of the outer door handle. Is it needed and is it supposed to go through the door panel and show on the fabric or is it hidden behind the panel? It seems to have a shoulder on it which gives the impression of going through the panel. Sorry if I've explained this clumsily. The last 2 pics may help.
  23. Yup, I'm wrong. I agree... studebaker. I thought the top of the radiator shell wasn't quite right to be a ford. Of course I was viewing it on my phone...that my story and I'm sticking to it.
  24. Looks like a 33-34 Ford but I'm not 100% sure. If it is a Ford curved or straight side hood lovers would differentiate between 33 or 34.
