  1. Find a gravel pit or some such off road spot and get him a few miles now...he'll want it later. My dad had me out driving on country roads at 9 but that was a different time. Gotta be off road on private property now. The experience was burned into my brain and when I think of my dad, I think of those days.
  2. HEY!!! That all looks very familiar...deja vu??? We had a couple of weeks of $h!tty weather, too...which included 3 days of snow, I even saw a couple of flakes this morning!!! Looks like a very short summer.
  3. Most of the reason the floors rusted was the ability of the felt to soak up water, then it's inability to evaporate under the rubber. Wet felt on top of sheet metal...not long until big holes develop. Might try to find a better way to stop sound, like dynamat or similar...the "peel and seal" mentioned works great as well.
  4. Pete, happy that you'll have the bucks but sad the car will be gone. Like you said, there is always the next chapter and that can be exciting as well. You and the boys always have the memories. And we are here and you still have a wealth of knowledge you could share. Don't be a stranger. Pat
  5. http://www.myfatherscar.com/2415/776-%E2%80%93-brand-new-1947-plymouth-taken-in-1947/ Great website! Ever wonder what the oldies we find today looked like the day the proud owner brought it home from the showroom?? Lots of those pics here, like this brand new Plymouth
  6. I got mine from Mid-Canada Suspension in Winnipeg. $100 Canadian...check the exchange...usually works to the advantage of US buyers.
  7. I remember taking my sisters roller skates all apart and bolting the "trucks" on an old goalie stick part to make a "skate board" I got to be pretty good but nowhere near what the kids do today. Fred, he should at least wear a helmet...even the pro's do. That concrete gets pretty unforgiving. I wish I was as smart now as I was when I was 13...I'd be rich!!
  8. That was fun...thanks Capt Fred!
  9. Things have changed. Way back in the late 60's my dad ran gas to his garage and the gas company insisted on 4 feet deep! Guess who got the honor of the dig??? It was only about 12 feet long but it was hard work and no beer at the end!!!
  10. This would be a great swap for a disc kit. Better brakes and easier to get parts. Nicely done!
  11. One solution may be to buy a running complete car to use as a guide. When yours is done, sell the guide car. I have hundreds of pictures of my Chrysler and all the old parts are in heavy Glad freezer bags WITH a print. Plus I have a parts car that won't be parted out until I'm done (or my estate sells the whole kaboodle ) My cameras were both under $200 each.
  12. Is anyone reproducing Serial number tags?? Specifically for a 1930 Plymouth but if not any serial tag will do. Thanks
  13. That depends entirely on who's buying I think. There is a good market for both. Personally, I like both IF well done. Build it for you, what you like and what you need. Why build it for someone else's taste and opinion???
  14. Charlie, if you are going to pull the body off, don't overlook an older motorhome. I bought this old Champion a while back, good running 440/727 on Dodge truck chassis. Interior was shot and I ripped it out to use as a storage shed. It was $200. There are lots of them out there. Might work for you. Or how about a newer school bus chassis. Pull the body, add your oldtimer body, and it's nice and long to build your home away from home on. Older and non running school buses go for under $1000 around here.
  15. Looking good, Tim. I like the panels...very appropriate for a suburban I think. What are those little welding clamps called?? Haven't seen any up here.
  16. It's a beauty, Bob. Nice job on the detailing.
  17. I had one for a while. Bought it from the newsstand in the 70's. The book is pretty dated and, dare I say, obsolete? For instance, there were no such thing as disc brake kits back then. Actually there were few kits of any kind. Ron Francis kind of kicked that off with his wiring kit back in about 73. Possibly someone who has one can copy the article you need???
  18. I bought 4 used ones of the Harbor Freight quality for $40. They didn't roll worth a darn and that's what I wanted them to do:( I went to a local place called CasterLand, bought new, quality caster$$$ and now I can move it very easily. Where they cut the corners is in the casters...very poor quality.
  19. "Which end will remain to be determined. :D" I have a feeling the DMV reputation is the same no matter where you are! Here, they are actually privatized and run by individual entrepreneurs, much like the local corner grocery store...in ALL respects. But, just like when it was government employees, you can ask 5 different clerks the same question and get 7 different answers
  20. Welcome. Very nice Chevies! Hot August Nights is a total blast! You're gonna love it. More pictures please
  21. Good one, Don. I'll stick to my new vegan regime so as not to tick off Bambi!!
  22. Congratulations Ed!!!!
  23. Bummer. I would suspect the voltage regulator on the engine side of the firewall for the buzzing. Common failure in these old Mopars.
  24. Lawyers usually have no qualms eating their own species. Your lawyer won't stop billing until there is no money left. Been there done that.
