  1. Your biggest hurdle by far will be getting it inspected and licensed. If you plan on modifying the existing chassis, best bet would be to get it inspected and licensed before you do any mods. Around here, after it's licenced, DMV has no further interest. The ones who WILL have an interest would be the insurance company. Most ask specifically if it has been modified...which may require another inspection. For instance, having 10 hole wheels but only using 5 would not get past even the most lenient inspection. I would think buying a salvage running chassis with all the goodies you were looking at, and switch bodies. Then, an inspection would be a breeze because it would only have to meet B-1-FA specs which it would meet easily. Around here they would use the body serial number for registration. They don't care about the chassis numbers. There is still the insurance company to deal with though.
  2. Looks great, Bob!!
  3. You can never have too much good, notarized, witnessed paperwork for a bureaucrat. They love it, the more the better. Cover all the possible bases to save a trip. Rural DMV's are best! Good luck. All we need here is a simple Bill of Sale and an inspection if the vehicle isn't "in their system"
  4. Fred, this is what my '49 looks like, if that helps any. If you plan on installing Charlie's kit and replacing the kingpins, maybe at the same time you could swap in the parts car lower A arm. It's not that difficult a job really. A good winter project?
  5. I think after they get all the bugs ironed out of the revolutionary pushbutton start system, they MIGHT begin research on the futuristic floor pedal start system. That would be the pinnacle of modern technology, but won't happen overnight. The only thing left would the impossible...the outside crank start...but that is decades away.
  6. Some folks have perfect heads, others are covered with gray hair.
  7. I just see a beautiful rare car. I wish I had the scratch to have it.
  8. 49 and 50 DeSoto, Chrysler and big Dodge doors will fit at the front pillar. Those year 2 doors had the B pillar slanted, so the top door frame is slanted as well. You may be able to cobble in the top door frames on your 4 door to eliminate that. Then you'll have to move the B pillar back to fit the new doors. I've seen it done. One I saw had the 2 door conversion only on the driver side, passenger was still in 4 door configuration. 1949 Chrysler
  9. Sometimes a day of hookey with dad is a lifetime memory.
  10. I used brake cleaner and carb cleaner...both work great. Whatever is on sale Carb cleaner will also take road tar off the car pretty good.
  11. Those floppy knobs are very $ought after because back in the day they broke fairly quickly in daily use. They are quite unique as well. They used to bring a top dollar on eBay.
  12. That reminds me of a certain alien from Melmac...mmmmmmm...cat! We are over run by wabbits...wascawwy wabbits everywhere!
  13. This is the PlyDo SBC mount kit. I'm not quite sure how it goes together yet.
  14. If the car was originally titled using the engine number and the engine was replaced, maybe this replacement "serial number plate" was used to ensure the correct number followed the car/title. If the car was titled using the engine number, with that engine no longer in place, the serial number would not match anything causing the title to not match that particular car...a big problem. The new tag solves that problem for title purposes. If that's the number on the title, it's a keeper. In order to ID the year of manufacture, the frame number would need to be located and deciphered. Mine on the 49 Chrysler is above the axle on the drivers side frame.
  15. The Canadian Dodge that has Fluid Drive is the big Coronet. Yours is a "Plodge" The Canadian Dodge was a Plymouth with Dodge badging. No idea why. Bill Watson may chime in here with the full story. From Allpar: http://www.allpar.com/world/canada.html (If I recall, Bill Watson said there were some inaccuracies in Allpar's article) Unless someone installed it, your car won't have factory Fluid Drive OR the M6 semi automatic transmission. You can test it by trying to put the column shift lever in first gear...towards you and down...if it goes in you have a regular 3 speed manual, not an M6. To check for Fluid Drive, when the car is running, let out the clutch. Fluid Drive won't stall. Here's a Fluid Drive bellhousing. The filler hole and the openings are the identifying marks of Fluid Drive inside. You can also look from underneath by removing the cover. Inside will be a fluid coupling that looks like a torque converter with the starter ring gear on it. (if you have fluid drive) If you have a regular flywheel, no fluid drive. I have never seen Fluid Drive in the smaller bodied Canadian Dodge (Plodge)
  16. Good Luck, Ed
  17. I plumbed a 74 Nova combination valve into may old 50 Dodge with front disc kit and Cordoba rear end back in the early 90's. I used the Nova because of the similar weight. I didn't notice any fade and the back brakes would lock up before the fronts to prevent "dive"
  18. A buddy hooked up a couple of very loud horns under the front seat. If you didn't turn them off before the door opened it would deafen anyone INSIDE the car. It was an old 52 Chevy 6 volt.

  20. Is there a current picture of this spot available???
  21. Back in the 70's when my first 49 Chrysler was my DD, I regularly drove it at 63. Why 63 and not 65? The driveshaft was out of balance and had a "rolling vibration" at 65. When my dad owned the same car, it would tow a tent trailer and the family at 60. The only thing you have to get used to is the racket Combine the lack of sound deadener and the inherent noise of the engine and it does sound like it's gonna come apart but in reality, it's in it's element and quite happy at 60-65. Just use some dynamat on the firewall and enjoy the car. 55, 60 or 65 it's up to you.
