  1. Well, those trims might have originally been on a skirt for a 36 or 37 model Plymouth. Here's a pic from a magazine article (article for sale on ebay) showing a piece on the skirts. Skirts are different shape than ones sold. However, I still think they were aftermarket. May have been special ordered thru a dealer. But most cars of the day do not have them.
  2. Ed, in looking thru several articles to get those pictures, I did see a truck or two with just the chrome strips on the headlights. Around 39, 40, or 41 models. Don't know if their use was influened by the size, price or type of truck. You might Google those models if interested.
  3. 53--on the right, no fins, only chrome strip. 54 had the mini fins. Maybe only on the Belvedere. I had a couple 54's---they did have a little flag on the fins as I recall. Or you could do like this person, use a couple hood ornaments for the fins. Click on the link to view:
  4. I had never heard or seen this story before. Just stumbled onto it on an Allpar site. Click on the link to go to that page. http://www.allpar.com/history/plymouth/johnny-cash.html
  5. Maybe from somebody's fender skirt factory, but far as I know there never were any "factory" Plymouth skirts. All were aftermarket. I've never seen that trim piece before....and I've seen a lot of Plymouth stuff.
  6. A 1939 Chevy pickup.....does not have the parking lites on headlites.....nor does the 1940 model. 1940 Chevy pickup. And a 1941 Chevy
  7. ..it may be splitting hares.. Tim, Are those split hares to be used in some low country rabbit stew???? LOL (couldn't resist)
  8. For $810. Looked at the buyer's info, he is from Switzerland.....
  9. Tim, I borrowed this 1947 magazine ad from ebay. There's the flag.
  10. I doubt that the Dodge lid would work. The Dodge is a little bit larger car, I think. Ask the seller to measure it on the outside from top to bottom and also across, then measure yours.
  11. Right on about the resto or building costs. I stopped in to visit a friend who owns a hot rod shop a few days ago. He said he just finished building this '32 or thereabouts Chevy streetrod for a local fellow at a cost of $83 to $85,000. Now the guy is trying to sell it for $55,000. Where's the logic? I don't know WHY the man is trying to sell, but he offered it to one of my customers for that $55 figure. Can you write such a loss off your taxes?
  12. Didn't need this key chain, but I like that sign, so merry christmas to me. Kind of fun getting a few period items gathered up.
  13. They used to have places like that around here 20 to 30 years ago....have tromped around in yards that looked like the pictures. Pretty much gone now. Thank goodness I got at least some parts back then when you would bring up a little pile of stuff and the price was 5 or 10 or 20 dollars.
  14. Gary, back in the day when this vehicle was newer, people did such things as add that door. Back then it may have just been an "old" truck, not very expensive to buy, and they may have needed that door for getting the kids in and out more conveniently.....or who knows what???? So they simply found a sedan door at the junkyard and installed it. Wonder if there is a matching door on the left side.
  15. ....it would go below the rear plate, but look -- no room on a P15 anyhow. Might go below this plate. So, perhaps it was intended for the front...???
  16. Two things I noticed. 1. It certainly appears nice. 2. Is being sold by a dealer. Seems a bit overpriced nonetheless. These old cars are kind of like houses. Those high prices seem nice if you are selling. But they sure make it hard to buy the next car or house. Glad I bought my car in the 70s.....I don't think I could afford to buy it today.
  17. The Original chevy suburban. You just thought these late model ones were a new idea. However-----if you look closely, the molded ridges on that back door do not match others on that side. Here are a couple 1946 suburbans....about the same animal. However, they appear to be two-doors, not four. The extra may well have been added.
  18. This item was in the Carthage, MO paper recently. It does say a movie person spotted an old International wrecker at an abandoned service station in Galena, Kansas. Now, to me, he looks like a little bit newer International. I found a picture of one that was just about his twin, with the opposite headlight out.....I posted it a while back. But now I don't recall where I found it. Ah--ha, found that pic. 1956 IH.
  19. Seems to have been bought by a guy who actually has a bit of sense. His ad said he planned to street rod it.....but after he got it, decided it was too nice to do that to it. So he's trying to find it a better home....so he says.
  20. Like your car, Jim. You don't see very many Dodge coupes around here, mostly fourdoors. I'm no electrical expert, but regarding the 12 volts for starting, I will just repeat what several others have said in the past....no real need for 12 if the original 6V system is in good condition. Good wiring, O or 00 gauge battery cables, generator and regulator working properly, etc. I think the 12 volt power inverter is most simple to run accessories like stereo. I can see you have been giving it a lot of thought however. There are also some 6volt alternators out there. Bob
  21. Hello to all......come on and join in. Lots of information and a bit of fun here.
  22. Hello James Adams. Good to have an Arkansawyer on the forum. I can't remember just were your town is, but I'm in Joplin, MO.
  23. Then, you should find a number stamped into the outside of the frame a little bit in front of the left rear wheel. Probably have to do some wire brushing to see it. Usually a good coat of crud on the frame. If there is no title and you have to get a new one, you might consider using the number on that door frame tag instead. Then it will be obvious to others as well.
  24. I really like Kansas City---they have lots of good blues and jazz music. I prefer the blues part, and belong to the K C Blues Society. Don't get there near often enough, but have been able to sit in at various clubs and play a song or two with local bands. They have lots of jam sessions. This group just happend to be playing at a waterfront bar in the country of Belize earlier this year. Our ship just happened to stop there. A coincidence??? (they didn't offer to divvy up the tips in that jar with me:( ) But.....the waitress came over when the song ended, thanked me for playing, and presented a shot of tequila and one of their T shirts. (The old harmonica paid off again.) Just my idea of fun.
  25. You ought to check out this website.....these people bait the scammers and lead them on some pretty funny rides. http://www.419eater.com/ They ultimately get a scammer to send a picture doing something stupid or holding a sign they think is important to the deal.
