  1. Thats right, I won Second Place at Maryland with a modfied Car. What Changes, dual carbs, dual exhaust, radial tires, a couple of wrong knobs, tinted windows, carpet, no engine decals, some wrong engine paint, OD, Disc brakes, Dash wood graining a little darker and a terrible oil leak. A point here, a 1/2 point there, 2 here and there. What did I get right, paint, body work, fit, chrome, stainless, options (thats plus 5 points) interior material/colors, wiring etc. The challenge started way back in Charlotte (second annual tale gate party) ( also Gregs 46 and my 49 Coupes with duals is waht got us the three hour private tour of Richard Petty Race Shop) after staying up way too late, BBQ, Bench racing and lying the next morning I was a Judge with Earl Buton. Now he is a purist, but he does appreciate good work and fast plymouths. So as we talked I would play what if I did this how many points would I loose. Game ON! What do the members of the POC and this forum have in common? A strong interest in preserving, talking about and in some cases driving their old mopars. Greg and I have been to all four Tailgate Parties (I need my wing man for Portland, so put some pressure on him) and quite frankly that is the highlight for me. The list of guest is a long one Earl Buton, Bobbi & Merrill Berkheimer, Dave Geise, Wild Bill Eye, Don Coatney, Bloody Knuckles, Tim Adams, The Buskirks, Clif Middleton, Steve Gray, Jim Blackmore just to mention a few. As others have said, you don't have to agree with everything thats done. I guarantee you this, if you pay your money you can get in the show, if you want it judged, you play by the POC rules. If you have your Bulletin On page 31 is my car, third place a pretty stock car, but the tires, exterior paint and interior are clearly not, (both he and I were shocked when we won) page 33 second place had a home made split manifold and some other engine mods and he got second.   2. How do you incorporate change in a group. Get involved. As far as the POC judging and "modified" cars, A MODIFIED CAR can garner enough points to place at a a National Meet. I Did it, my car won second at the Maryland Meet, and as Greg can attest I did my part in keeping the tailgaters loud and large and had my share of run ins with In Hospitality group. Any and all cars are welcomed, but if you want them judged, there has to be a standard. I'm fine with that. My first meet was at Indianapolis, King Earl (who has now become a very good friend) took one look at my 49 coupe, with dual carbs exhaust, and Chrome foot gas pedal, we like to keep our cars orginal. So right in front of the group who had gathered I said, "Do want me to leave? Oh and I would like a full refund!" He immediatley backed up and started to to explain. I said I'm fine with that. Make you a deal, you spend your money your way, I spend mine how I want to. It gets better, one of the side trips was to a 1/2 mile banked asphalt race track, While others took a lap or two, I stayed out there the whole time, giving rides to others who didn't want to hurt their cars. At that Charlotte meet is when I decided and openly stated I was going to build my 47 with changes and have it judged. Built it, Judged it and won. Mission accomplished. What does the POC and P15-D24 have in common? The love, preservation and driving enjoyment of Old Mopars. I for one, will continue to be part of and attend National POC meets. I also guaratee you the Friday Night Tailgate Parties will continue (Have Grill will Travel) to get bigger, larger and louder (I need my wing man Greg to attend Portland, please put pressure on him) We did get several pictures of the event in this POC publication. Guess what, we /you can make a differnce, attend the Portland meet, I for one am driving out. Meet a new friend, join us for the Friday Tail gate party, and help make your own memories. Mark
  3. Pete, I like it! Thanks for the effort. Made the pre trip pre second judging checklist and have started tearing into my 47, 1. Oil leak fixed, 2. Cowl repainted, entire car lightly rebuffed. 3. Speedo removed for odometer repair 4 Pull rear drums and have new studs installed 5, Gas Gauge purchased and neccessary electronics to convert to 12 volt. 6. Ordered original stlye hose clamps 7.Ordered engine decal set 8, Found a set of newer wheels Thsi is just a partial of the "to Do" list many of which are taking from the judging sheet (make up 18 points)
  4. Joe, I used a remote switch (toggle) battery, ground, relay, coil smarter guys can tell you the sequence
  5. Pete, sounds good. Once we are running in a pack, its becomes part of the adventure
  6. Sounds like we are getting a plan together. I do want to see and stay in Yellowstone, and then we can adopt Pete's route. Keep planning and the more the merrier!
  7. Well, the rear wheels are shot on my 47, Egg Shaped and no way to fix them according to George Asche. Anyone have any for sale? Need to find a pair of "round ones" for the Plymouth to Portland trip. Plymouth or Dodge both will work

  9. You are not alone! I too must admit I did the same da@$ thing on my 49. Couldn't fish it out, have driven over 8M miles with no problem. Buy a replacement chaser
  10. Jim, I am sure you go to 90 if needed. Odds are good that motor will out last all of us

  12. DC, as we prepare thisis a very fluid plan. Once we figure out who is in, I am sure Cliff can reorganize the days. I for one, am ok going out taking my time, seeing the sights. But on the way home, interstate hammer down, party over until next year
  13. Don, in the first post I listed the cities we will be staying/stopping in for the night. I am sure they should have some type Marriott property. I know Cliff wants to stick pretty close to the orginal route and tiem frame. Its never too early tostart planning

Greg, the suspension on my 47 is all new, coil and leaf springs, bushings, air shocks, tires, brakes 11 rear and front disc, converted to 12 volt, new OD trans, clutch pressure plate and bearing and 3.90 gears in the rear end. The car actually had a hitch on it when I got it. As Tim said it was mounted to the frame rails, I plan on building one and mounting in the same places. The Pop up I am planning on borrowing is a 86 Coleman Williamsburg, top end for its time, really nice sleeps six, but it is on the heavy side 1460 lbs. I have towed it wih my Dodge minivan, no problem. If I had my choice I would choose a lighter one, but the Coleman is free. Will put the gear in the trailer, just have to keep it to a minimum. Loose the trailer battery, propane tanks, (help with the tongue weight) non essential cooking stuff etc. Need room for my BBQ grill, cooler and beer.
  15. What kind of Weight can a P15 pull. I was looking at old photos on the Tin Can Tourist site and it looks like in the good old days they pulled some pretty big and heavy trailers? Who has or is pulling a trailer now and what weight ?

  18. Greg right now its a grass roots effort. Cliff is the energizer. At the Maryland meet several East Coaster mentioned they would be interested. When you get a minute drop him a note. Its going be a long slow trip which is perfect! Lots of backroads, small towns, and great stories. I invite everyone to hook up with us for a day or night or what ever part of the trip you can make. I know We will publish more details, Cliff is checking with the POC to see who has the orginal document and if it is in an electronic format.   19. Looks likes it will start JUne 2 or 3 From MA. I plan on meeting around June 6 in Clinton Iowa. the exact date needs to be set and then all travel times and locations will fall in line
  20. All, its not too ealry to start planning. I know at both the Wisconsin and Maryland POC National meets discussion began about this tip. The idea was to reuse the 2000 trip details that the POC put together, it probably will not be a National Club supported trip, rather a loose knit group of rebelsworking their way across the backroads of america enroute to the Portland area along a pre set route and timetable. I just got an email from Cliff Middleton (owner of the only RV rated Plymouth Wagon) he is the current project leader and he is in. I am planning on going taking my 47 Sedan and will probably pull a small pop up camper. If anyone is interested in send me an email and I will add you to the distribution list. Plans are to drive about 250-300 miles per day, across the upper part of the US. Middleboro MA, Metamorus PA, Gettysburg PA, East Liverpool OH, Auburn IN, Geneva IL, Clinton IA, Blari NE, Ogallala NE, Casper Wy, West Yellowstone, Missoula MT, Walla Walla WA, Troutdale OR, Portland. Not sure if the theme will be BBB (Bars, Beer and BBQ) or DDDI (Diners, Dives and Drive Ins). So with Clif and I we have two, thats enough to be recognized as an official "Gang" but we could sure use a few drivers and maybe even a few riders. My email is maubuchon@technicalconcepts.com
  21. as others have said, refer to manual if you have one. If not take you time and make small adjustments as you go. On my 47 the hinge has enough adjustment to go up down, forward and back. The hood itself has some adjustments also. With the hood open, I would measure the distance fromt he back of the hood to the cowl, hinge distance, also it half way, measure, close open measure adjust. You will get it

  24. Joe, fill and drain it a few times, if it runs clear you are good. A visual inspection can point out any potentiallyt bad spots (leaks) If you do have tohave it fixed, be carefullthey can get pricey quick.
