  1. What will happen if a 1949 Desoto is converted to have a Weber carb ? Will the fluid drive shifting still operate without the original carb’ s electrical hook ups ? Thanks for any input

      Jeez....auto correct!

I need to read and re-read this silly phone and it's idea of what it thinks I need to type!

The cater carb has the kick down switch for the trans....a must, but just using a ground out button mounted elsewhere will work too.

Then the anti-stall solenoid mounted on top of the carb prevents engine stalling as the car comes to a fast stop.

You could drive the car as is now with the two anti-stall wires dis-connected and see if the trans and engine operate ok...if so you don't need the anti-stall hooked up.

What's wrong with your original carb?

I took out the old carb which was dumping ( leaking fuel) and intend to have it rebuilt but in the mean time put on the Weber carb .i was surprised that the shifting still operated but has no wiring connections .this 49 Desoto has a button on the end of the shift lever that I assume grounds it for downshifting as that’s what we Remember  it doing many years ago when it was driven more often.so far it does not stall at a stop.i will experiment with the button to see if it downshifts.you are right this typing in of words is always difficult when the machine tells and puts what it wants in place of perfectly good words.just look at my profile it wrote( desktop) when I tried to write de Soto .thanks for your knowledgeable input.Dan

That gear shift downshift button is all you need to cause a forced downshift.

A good running healthy engine usually won't stall out when coming to a sudden stop...especially with the clutch pushed in.

The instrument cluster lights are really cool...kinda purple back ground with green glowing needles as I recall?
