  1. That’s how I had mine wired to test fire the engine. I’m no expert on 6 Volt but it worked for me.
  2. As a Plumber I have to say mixing NPT with NPS is a very risky business even at very low pressure. Almost guaranteed to leak at some point and will stretch the NPT threads. There are an abundance of NPT “ Socket Head Pipe Plugs “ designed for flush installation available. https://www.fastenal.ca/mb/productList/Pneumatics/Pneumatic+Fittings/Tube+Fittings/Socket+Pipe+Plugs/604269?pageSize=24
  3. I found them on a different site for $339. https://www.carburetion.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?part=UNVUN2
  4. Estrada Motorsport on YouTube has a video of window and door handle removal
  5. Sniper is rite. Mini starters were put into use when dodge started using TBI. I use the Magnum mini starters because I have LA engines and Magnum engines so only one part number to remember and easier to find at the wreckers if needed.
  6. For what it’s worth an LA engine can use the newer “mini starter” that came factory on the magnum engines from 94 to 01.
  7. Tim. That is quite a difference in combustion chamber. I’d imagine on the right block with the right rotating assembly that could change compression significantly. Thanks for the info
  8. Wagoneer Heres a pic of my engine number. It’s definitely stamped by hand.
  9. Thanks Tim for the very helpful information. I’ll post some pics of the number under the water pump gasket. I’m thinking it’s a number put there by the rebuilder possibly for warranty purposes? If you could get more information on that head number it would be much appreciated. Im not going to open up this engine as it has good compression and everything looks to be in good condition with a bore scope but I could pull the head off of my parts engine with the same head number once I’m back in Ontario from BC. I haven’t had the oil pan off yet but that will likely happen before the engine goes back in the truck because it’s center sump and from my research the trucks are supposed to be rear sump. I don’t know how it even fit in the truck without front axle interference. The Bombardier engine is seized so I can’t do the brass plug over #6 test. I’ll be doing the #6 plug test on the D49 when I’m home in the spring. It appears the PO got a flat tire on the driver side rear and didn’t know about left hand thread and after days and days of trying to get the tire off gave up on the truck back in the early 90’s. He then got the Bombardier with a blown/seized engine and started the swap for the truck motor then somehow he broke the mounting flange off of the only carb he had so he gave up and started swapping in a Nissan engine. I got the truck on trade for finishing the Nissan engine swap. Well worth the 10 hrs of work Sorry for getting off topic. I’d also be interested in knowing about the cams that Kevin asked about. Thanks
  10. I am certain I have seen this style of latch somewhere before ( photographic memory darn it ) but I can’t remember for certain what they were on... I’m undecided between old school bus rear/emergency door latches or a vintage trailer latch. The memory will most likely pop in my head at 4:00am
  11. My concern with the D49 is that it is hand stamped and the block could be any of the 25” block varieties.
  12. I have a 25” flathead 6 that came out of my 53 Fargo. It’s not the original and there are several things that I haven’t been able to find any information on. Background information: Block number near the head is D49 2 6871 C and looks like it was stamped by hand. Under the water pump gasket it’s stamped 269612. I’ve never seen or heard of a number stamped there? Number cast into block under distributor L 18 3 Crank bearing cap number 665672 and what looks like 12 stamped sideways on the cap Head number is 1327337 with D 21 2 above and a 9 stamped behind the coil bracket Distributor number is 1688674 or 14 Is there a way to tell what size engine this is by the crank bearing cap number? Has anyone seen a number stamped under the water pump gasket? It’s upside down just below the head mating surface. I can’t find my block or head date code listed anywhere. This engine has a center sump oil pan. I have an industrial engine out of a late 50’s Bombardier sidewalk machine with the same head number But different date code. Id like to know the actual year of this block and head.
  13. NOT the Christmas present I wanted but I’ll fix it
  14. I have another 25” block and it doesn’t have a number there either. maybe a rebuilders number ?
  15. Does anyone else have a number stamped in the block behind the water pump ?
  16. I guess I’m the only one with a block stamped behind the water pump ?
  17. I read a post a while ago about using new style seals in the steering box. I searched and can’t find the original post but here are some pictures with the part numbers used. hope this helps.
  18. More block numbers, head and intake numbers
  19. I’ve searched for days and haven’t been able to find any info on a number I found stamped under the water pump gasket in the block just below the head and upside down. Pics below The reason I ask is the engine number on my Canadian 25” seems like it was stamped in the dark by a drunk person The engine number says it’s a 54 but the intake number and head numbers don’t match that. Maybe someone slapped together whatever parts they had on hand? Id like to know the actual year etc to aid in finding parts, maintenance etc
  20. Some of the industrial engines had 5 blade fans. I have one from a late 60’s Bombardier SW48 that’s going to go in my 53 Fargo
  21. I can’t find the post I read the other day about the draft tube needing to be installed in the rear most position to help vent the crankcase but Merle explains it here :
  22. Can anyone shed some light on our body numbers ? 5112-2**** Im going to guess that 5112 has something to do with the body year and style and the rest of the number is a sequential Serial number ?? Lumpy5oh one day when we both have our trucks done we’ll have to meet up and drool over each others trucks PS: keep the pics coming Thanks Merle I'm going to arm myself with a wire brush and some sandpaper like suggested and retrieve my chassis number. What can be learned from a chassis number ?
  23. 1953 Fargo’s are one year only as they have the two piece windshield and the bubbly square rear fenders that look like this... If you find any info on decoding your body tag I’d be interested. my body tag is #5112-25674 Im wondering if yours is similar. I have a 53 Fargo and also live in Ontario near Ottawa
