  1. I had a turned flywheel warp on me once it took me forever to figure that out. put a run out gauge on clutch surface and was 40 thousands out of wack grabbed like mad
  2. after much beating of pistons and gradually getting the 48 to make a complete revolution of its crank the last valve gave way and it spin,s very freely now i went to napa to buy it a new battery i wanted to really see it turn over with some oil on it. I did disconnect the rest of the 73 year old wiring harness as its seen better days, jumped the contacts for the starter and it jumps backwards about ten feet ,big surprise and no harm done but looks like shift linkages not very helpful for telling what gear its in .one more thing for the list. all in all very happy to get it free and get on to other stuff like the wiring any suggestions on where to find a good quality replacement loom ,ill be keeping it stock
  3. all of what was said here was right on the money but nobody mentioned to disconnect the battery before taking the tank out.one good spark under there and all will be lost . i know most here have years of experience under there belts but some are really working on cars for the first time.its just smart to include some things that most take for granted .thanks for all your help i'm still learning lots
  4. Tapping with a wood block and the front crank nut. started to rain before i was able to do too much but pistons were feeling pretty solid
  5. So as the 48 sits it really surprised me,got the head off easy enough still cant move it but cly's were very clean no ridge at all and the rings are not holding the marvel mystery oil for more than a few minets, in 10 every cly was dry again. the speedo shows 39,430 its tatered a bit but i never would have guessed it s on its secound or third time around on the clock. even the valves that are still up looks good crisp edges on each cut's. the only real suspect thing so far was a burnt section in between cly2 and3 and 5 and 6 on the head gasket. after cleaning both block and head appear ok .so my question is should i head down south and pull pan to check con rods or shall the beating start up top all so if i do send out the head for a clean up cut do i have to do the same for the top of block. thanks for the help guys
  6. 7. Hello all thanks for letting me in have a 47 Plymouth with its original 218 ,stuck of course but its not my first rodeo its got 80,000 on clock so thinking replacement might be more economical than a rebuild . my thinking is to find a newer maybe larger spitfire to replace it with .is this a bolt in swap newer flat head/bigger to older? if i had to rebuild id rather have a bit more power? what cars trucks do i look for to find the spitfire? thanks for any help amishguy
