  1. In the posted just before this post there are two pictures of fuel pumps. The one on top is a 588 model and this was used onthe big block flat 6 Desoto/Chrylser and Dodge since these cars had electric wiper motors. from my literature this same pump was used up into the 40's So I would think that this would be the correct pump. Plese post the model and year of your Chrylser so I can look in my fuel pump catalogs. Rich Hartung

  3. take the car to a safelite dealership. They warranty the glass for life. I had a front windshiled replaced in my dodge caravan. When i left the shop I also noticed a wave in the glass when looking out the drivers front windshiled. I took it back and they replaced the entire windshiedl at their cost. The manage informed me that the installer should have put the glass on a stand and then they have high intensity lights that are behind the glass to look for any flaws such as waves and chips. My installer just rushed the job. Ask the insurance company how to remedy this situation. It sounds as if you body shop did not inspect the glass. Their supplier should deliver an new windshield to the bodyshopp and the cost of r&r is back onthe repair shop not you or the insurance company if they are the ones paying for the repair. A wave in a windshield is a safety hazard and when you go to your next state inspection like we have in PA you will fail and still have to have it replaced. rich hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  4. I just saw on ebay when I did a search under 1939 dodge a listing for a 1939-47 dodge truck the entire armored cable, ingintion switch with keys and also the coil. not sure if this is what you are looking for but thought it might help. Rich Hartung
  5. I jus saw on ebay there is a set of drip rails for dodge truck 39-47 and the same fit 46-65 powerwagon here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/1939-47-dodge-truck-46-68-powerwagon-cab-rain-gutters-/220818430434?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3369cdd9e2 Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  6. Last year i was able to get the full set of tools that were used to adjust both models of the sisson chokes. Currently on Ebay the small rod tool is currently liste for around $25. I was an avid bicycle rider and also was a bicycle mechanic. Until I found the proper tool I used a Bicycle spoke to make the adjusting rod or tool. If I rememebr correctly in one of my auto repiar manuals I think they stated that a #4 drill bit is a very good subsitiute for the adjusting tool. I was also to acquire the Sisson testying stand that were used by the dealership and it still has the original themostat and it works. i have used this to test new and used units. I am at work but will try to post pictures of the tools. I had posted the pictures a couple of months back. For anyone that is interested I have an original copy of the sisson choke manual and I have scanned the manual onto CD's It show thes the various models and tools and the stand and the proper way to adjust the chokes. If anyone is interested then contact me at Desoto1939@aol.com Rich Hartung
  7. Could you have a sticking brake pedal and then the brake light switch is still on and the circuit is slow draining the battery by sending current to your stop lights. Just my 2 cents. You also mention that you did some generator work. Did you re polarise the unit witht he regulator. This could also be the issue. Rich Hartung
  8. Woodie, There are two different sisson chokes. They are ones that fit the 49 plymouth that mount in front on the carb when looking from the fron on the engine and then there are the ones that mount behind the carb so that when you are looking at the carb from the fron of the car the choke is behind the carb. Which type of mout do you have.? I have a good used Sisson choke that mounts behind the carb and I have bench tested the unit. It is missing the small arm to move the butterfly but you can take this off of your old unit. Really there are three models that were used but the more widely found units are the two that I have described above. The other model was used onthe straight eights and some early Mopars. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  9. Woodie. Where the wire screws into the top of the choke there should be a piece of plastic or some type of material so that the circuit does not ground or short out the unit. when the unit is off the car there is a cotter pin that can rbe removed to clean the themostatic metal base plate but do not bend the plate. I do have the sission choke manual that was used by the dealers and I have scanned this manual to cd. Yes the prices on these have gone throught the roof and they are getting harder to find at the swap meets even at Hershey. PM me if you would like a copy. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com

  13. Ed, Just figure in inflation and the cost would still be 6.95 plus the over priceing for an antique tool. I have the Miller Tool manual scanned to CD if you are interested. Tools are great to have but they are getting harder to find. Rich Hartung

  16. Jerry, Thanks for the picture of your wheel. I looked at mine again this morning and I verified that there is no flat or key in the hole where the splines or grooves are. I have all grooves so I should beable to reposition mine without any problems. All these cars are different as they changed each year. rich Hartung
  17. I ahve a 39 Desoto and was a member of the NDC. I was the convention chrialman for the 1998 NDC Convention that was held in Valley Forge PA. Sparks is a little to far for me to travel in the old 39 Desoto plus with the heat the wife would not be very comfortable. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  18. Ed, I do not have one of these put I will try to scan a picture from my Miller Tool Catalog for you. I see on ocassions the old snap-on puller on ebay. Rich Hartung
  19. Here are two scan. First is from the 39 Desoto Parts Manual inthe tools section. Second in from the 36-42 DeSoto Master Parts List on the tools. Hope this gets you started on the right track. 20. The bais tools kit has been expanded by me over the years of collecting. The basic kit did not include the black 1941 tire tool not the cylinder cup tool, c clip tool, fan blade tool and spring tool and headlight bulb tool. These I have added to my kits over the years. I have been collecting for over 25 years and these are tools that I have found and also have seen in manuals and also in the Miller Tool Catalogs. These are tools that the dealers and also independent garage shops would have used on these cars. I am glad that I can be of some assistance to you. From What I have seen and have been talking to the tool guys at swap meets the Fairmont was a major manufacturer of tools in the 30-40s. I do not have any documentation on tools and have not been able to find any of this at the swap meets. I also have a nice collection of Miller Tools: MT19 - the Brake adjusting tools with 7 sleeves. Ammco 1750 brake gage Steering wheel puller used from 1939 and up rear Axles puller and internal grease seal puller The Master Cylinder refil bottle that attachs to the master cyclinder that is under the floor board. The tool to pull the ememgency brake drum off the rear of the trans. Tool to pullthe pinion seal out of the differential and several other tools. Rich Hartung
  21. I lloked at the splines in the two steering wheels that I have for my 39 Desoto and the splines all are of the same spacing. So I should then beable to pull mine and then center as need be. Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  22. the flat is 7 1/4 and the phillips is 7 1/2 rich hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  23. Here are picture of the miller tool C-327 that was used as the bench vise to push out the pin in the pin and trunion u-joints and the pushing tool for the pin. Rich Hartung desoto1939@aol.com
  24. There is a Miller toolthat the dealers had that was bolted to the bench this had a round impresion in it to rest the bal part of the pin. Then you put on a punch that fit over the pin and then pushed the pin out. To install the pin ther other end of the pin had a cup that the pin fit into you would then push the pin in and whenthe cup hit the ball then you knew your were centered on the assembly. I have the bench vise tool and also the pins and willpost pictures of the tool. Rich hartung Desoto1939@aol.com
  25. Neil. I have a 39 Desoto and two extra steering wheels that were on a car. I will look at the spline on the steering wheel to see if there is a difference in the splines. You learn something everyday. rich Hartung
