  7. clay look up the gasket number in your parts book and let me know the mopar number. I will look in my McCord and Victor gasket catalog for a number. I knew someone else had asked about this same gasket and I was able to find a gasket number.

  8. Keith:

saw that you are working on a 28 Dodge. I have scanned a copy of the  Universal parts catalog that covers the car you are working on.  The catalog is 188 pages and lists all of the North east electrical components and also has pictures of the components.

Great item to have in you files as a reference point. As you know the North east parts are hard to find but knowing the correct part and part number helps with the searching.

The catalog has been completely scanned and is on a CD disk.

cost is $25 shipped to your home, Great Xmas present.

  9. Todd:

I have a copy of the universal Catalog which lists and also shows pictures of the various electrical components that were used on the cars and trucks from 1926- 1934.

What is important is that your car used all North East Components and there are not too many pictures of these components. The section for the dodge lists the North east part number so that if and when you see any at a swap meet you can identify them if the seller does not know what he has.

the cost is $25 for the catalog and that includes shipping to your home. The catalog is 188 pages and the pictures and information is so valuable.

The catalog has been scanned and comes on a CD.

Makes a great Xmas present to you from yourself or someone else.

  10. Clay. I posted the Miller MT19 on the Desoto facebook and listed the tool for $550. There isa person up near Levittown, Pa north of Philly and is close to me he is interested in the tool.  So is the price of $550 good for you?  I know we tried to get a higher price at Hershey, but at least you will get your investment money back on this deal.

I left you a voice message on your company phone on Sunday night.  Call me during the daytime on Monday  cell 484-431-8157.

  12. Clayton:

I will be arriving at Hershey on Wednesday morning and then will go out looking for parts and those very special Miller tools, so hope to beat you to them. just kidding.  I plan to have my spot open on Thursday and Friday.  The last price I saw on Ebay for the Ammco brake tool which was complete was 750.

Looking forward to seeing you again and we can setup the tool to see if we can sell it.

  13. It is a headlight relay. To improve the headlights to get brighter and to lessen the amount the electrical voltage has to travel to get to the headlight bulbs.  So when the relay was not used the current ran from the headlight swith to the foot dimmer swith and then out to the junction box on the front fender and then to each individual headlight.  So instead of having the electricity  having to go throught this entire wiring situation the headlight relay was added and the power came directly from the battery to power the relay and then the electricity then went out to the headlights.  If you still have 6v power then keep the headlight relay and since it was converted to sealed beam this will also give you a brighter light. I did this to my 1939 Desoto to get brighter lights.

  14. Great news about the 38 Plymouth Ihave a 39 desoto.  i have a large collection of cross reference manuals that I have scanned and are now on Cd's.  These are great for looking for parts that were manufactured by the other car part manufactures also and autolite catalog that covers the electrical and other components for your car.

Write to me and I will send you my list of cataoogs.

  15. Marc:

This is rich Hartung with the 39 Desoto. I have a Spicer U joint catalog that I have scanned and is saved as a PDF. The nice part about this catalog at the end is a cross reference section to all of the major U joint manufacturers and by knowing the number of the Spicer u-joint then you can find the specific u-joint of another manufacturer.

I can copy the catalog and send it to you for the cost of $25 which includes the shipping and the CD mailed to your home.  This is a great catalog to have for your parts information. Let me know if you are interested

This will permit you to search by the various manufacturer numbers and also when you go to a swap meet you might even find the correct ones it also has a Mopar Par number cross reference so that also makes it easier to cross reference to other manufacturers.

  16. Dodgeb4ya.  I have a question about the trubake shoe lining grinding tool about the setup.  I have the miller tool with the sleeves and the trianulat piece that has the drum, toe and heel indicator.

So after setting the drum  diameter witht he drum part and then setting up the shoes with the drum indicator

    1. Whenthe shoes are on the backing plate should the drum indicator make contact at the toe and heel of the individual shoe or at the middle of the shoe.

    2. Then do you then use the  pointer that was used to mic the drum to setu p the distance of the motor from the center of the tool where the sleeve comes thru the opening of the axle.

I would think that this would then give you the proper setting so that you then would take off only the appropriate high spots on the individual shoes when  arcing the tool on each shoe.

Any help would be apprciated. I have a good understanding about the tool but not the fine adjustments.

  18. Clay was reading your post about find tdc. So you were able to get the timeing tool with the light that went intot he plug hole on number 6 piston.  If you did this is a good find. can you send me pictures of the tool?

I can not help with your questions since I am not a great engine builder. Might also look at the vibration dampener on the flat portion and then llok at the degree marks.  I put white paint on the appropriate line to get a reference point so when the timing light flashes I canthen see the line. My degree mark is 2 degrees before TDC. not sure of yours but would assume it might be the same.  You can use a 12 volt timing light but just switch the leads.  The positive or red clip would go to the engine block and the black clip then goes to your power source. Since I have the foot pedal starter motor I connect my black lead to this end on the starter selinoid to get power because this is were my battery cable is attached.

      Hi Rich,

I will send you photos.   I am only using the rod section and the dial since the electronics on my car are not are together yet, no light.

Great advice on the timing light as I have a 12 v one and thought it was an issue on 6v.  Good !

Meanwhile I hope I get an answer on my main question soon. ?

Here is a thought if you  have a 6 volt battery charger then hook up the leads to the light to the clips on the charger this will power the light so that when the metal rod comes up to the proper height it then should make some form of contact to make the light come on.  I think this should work give it a try by hooking it up this way and then move the rod up and down instile the metal tube to see if the light works. If it dos then you should be good to go.

Just thinkingout of the box so to say.

Thanks Rich. Appreciate the offer. I’ve established a big collection of original manuals in the past ten years and had no idea the carter company created these manuals. To be frank I’m likely to buy one of the vintage editions, just to have in the collection. Just found you on Facebook and sent a request to connect. I travel quite a bit that way, we own a house in NC as well as Mass and pass often.

  20. Hi, this is rich Hartung from theP15D25 club.  I have an Autolite catalog that has been scanned and is currently on CD. The catalog will cover all of the major autolite components such as the ignition, horns wiper etc for your car.  This is a great reference manual for your car and willhelp when looking for parts at swap meets.

The cost is $20 for the catalog and then the shipping is $4.00 to your home.  I also have other cross reference catalogs to support your car.

  21. Clay:  Wishing you a Merry Christmas and happy New year. It was great meeting up with you at Hershey.  I am sending in my funds again for the same two sites for next year.

I have been working on the the trubrake shoe ling tool and am getting made several of the sanding cones made.  I have to pull one of my rear drums because of something is leaking and I think it might be brake fluid or an inner seal has gone bad.

I will then correct the issue and then try to use the brake lining tool to see how it works. Hopefully it might warm up this coming weekend but when its cold in the garage I have little motivation to do any work. Getting older has its limitations.

Let meknow if my input about the foglight was helpful and yes do the cutting and sizing on a piece of scrap metalbefore drillig into the front gravel guard. Mease twice drill once.

      Rich,

So sorry I missed this message !

Hope you had a Merry Christmas and happy / healthy New Year to all.

I will tackle the fog lights later this year.  Thanks for the help!

Right now I am pushing to get the drive train in the car and the car back to the painter.

      THEN HOME for assembly.

Today I was rushing and mounted the bell housing with out the dowels.

I may have to remove the bell, the clutch , and the Fluid coupler to install the dowels.  Trying to drive them through from the block side but they are tight, and starting to peen over.  I don't want to hammer this hard on the block either.

Really stressed on this, so close and working too hard for 61 ! ?

Fourm threads indicate the dowels are too important to leave out.

      Wish me luck

      Clay

PS: good thing vacation is soon

  22. John:  Look at the bottom of the knob to see if there is a small slot on the end at the base. If there is a slot then the knob is held onto the end of the shaft to the switch by a flat spring washer.  So you willneed a set of jewerls screw drivers inster the end of the blade into the slot and you with then push on the  end of the spring that willthen release the tension and you then canpull the knob off the shaft.  Ths is how they are on my 39 Desoto so this might be the same with your car.

    Let know if this works.

      Hi Rich,

I am not sure which posts or knobs you are referring to.  I did post a suggestion to one of the participants here that was asking how to remove dash knobs from his 1935 Plymouth. I told him that Wayne Brandon (aka Plymouth Doctor) may be able to help him where deals with these cars. Back in 1953, my first car was a '35 Plymouth rumble seat coupe but I never tried to remove the knobs. Thank you anyway for your response.
