  1. Its a pertronix 6v positive ground ignition
  2. I bought an electronic ignition for my 1950 dodge coronet and I'm having problems with install. Has anyone done one of these conversions and if so could you give me some guidance? The instructions say to hook black wire to negative on coil. Pretty simple. The other wire is black and white and says to hook to ignition switch but it doesn't say where exactly and some previous owner decided to redo all the wiring in red so I have no color wires to go based off of. Any help would be appreciated
  3. Thanks alot everyone. I decided to go with a 100 amp alt to rid of my troublesome generator as I do find myself driving a few miles then having to set polarity again (i do check battery with multimeter prior to doing this and it's always low) and it prevents me from taking it on longish rides. Hopefully if I need help in the future you guys are still willing to help a new young guy like myself with such a great classic ride.
  4. Is 100 amps too much? I know they also make 63 amp alternators as well
  5. I went ahead and tried one more time to set polarity on my voltage regulator and it worked for a few minutes then my meter showed under 0 even with some throttle then would randomly shoot up and it was bouncing around. Confirmed it was sometimes charging with a multimeter on the battery. As I'm not familiar with old 6 volt systems yet is this a sign of a bad generator or voltage regulator? Previous owner installed an 8 volt battery not sure if thats the problem.
  6. Yes but it still gives me the option of us or canda emissions options. But a gentleman above gave me the part number i need.
  7. Okay. Mine has the 3 on one side. Wasnt sure if there was a difference. Thanks everyone for your help. Gonna rebuild the generator and replace the regulator. Hopefully thatll get it charging again.
  8. This is off of rock auto. But as my cars regulator has the 3 connectors that's what I'm going to order
  9. I've seen it on a few pages. And the america emissions option has only 2 tabs on the regular. Rock auto. Car id. Random Google searches for 1950 dodge coronet voltage regulator. I was thinking it was an odd question since there were no emissions.
  10. I'm trying to order a voltage regulator for my 1950 dodge coronet. It gives me the option of united states emissions or Canada emissions. Pics online show 3 tabs on the side of the regulator with Canada emissions and mine has 3 tabs but it says made in America. Before I purchase I want to know for a fact I'm getting the right part. Is there a specific place to look? Thanks. I'm still new to this vehicle and cars older than 70s.
  11. I was in a bad car accident last week that almost took my life so when I feel a little better i'll be jacking the car up and checking out everything underneath as well as going through brake system since brake pedal doesn't come up on its own. I have to pull it back up with my foot. And then check charging system. Someone put an 8 volt battery in the car instead of the 6 volt battery. But even on my little cruises around the back roads I live on shifting gets complicated due to that grinding and it taking about 7 seconds to shift. I have alot to learn about these cars.
  12. My idle is about 460. And ill have to get to those plugs when I'm in better shape. Right now I have to figure out why my generator isn't working on charging my battery and go from there.
  13. hello guys very new member. I've done alot of searching on the internet about checking the fluid in my transmission and have gotten nowhere. Its a 1950 coronet with the gyro matic. It grinds between the shifts and it grinds for about 7 seconds before shifting. I usually have to clutch then take it out of high then return to high for a clean shift. Is it more than likely fluid or is there something I should be looking at first? Thanks guys and I hope this new journey of mine into the world of 50's dodges is a good one!
