  1. Thank you both for your replies. My engine came completley disassembled with all the brass fittings removed. I have a straight one which fits with damaged thread on the outlet side. This fitting has a bore restriction. on the outlet side. Would this be the correct fitting?
  2. On my P4 engine the oil pressure take off seems to be just to the right of the crankcase ventilator tube and next to the block drain down tap. Does anyone know the part number for the brass block fitting that goes in the block and connects to the oil pressure pipe?
  3. Vertical slot in B pillar to take recessed semaphore arm - these are the less common longer arm Lucas trafficators found on some prewar cars ( i am still looking for some!)
  4. From what I understand, cars were built in the US and shipped to UK for assembly. Differences from Plymout P4 are: RH drive Revised dash Overdrive 12volt system as standard I think carburetors were also different as both the engines I have are fitted with Zenith carbs Wing mounted side lights (Lucas UK) Semaphore Trafficators mounted on the B Post (Lucas UK)
  5. Thanks for the info. The car pictured above is not mine. MIne is right hand drive. I have parts lists for both the 1937 Plymouth models and the UK equivalent Chrysler Wimbledon and Kew where the part numbers are the same as in my first post. I bought new rubbers which match the originals and fit perfectly. the problem is the shape of the vent frames which leave a gap at the front corner!
  6. HI Steve We did meet a couple of years ago at the Rally of the Giants. I would really appreciate it if you coud send me a close up photo of you front window vents so i can compare with mine. The top bracket and bottom pivot seem to be in the correct positions but the corner curve is not closing against the rubber seal, both of which are new. Always something!
  7. yes. it's the metal frames that I am after. The two that came with the car are distorted and damaged and do not cloae the gaps properly. Do you have an address in Llanduno?
  8. I am need of both front door vent wing glass frames for a1937 Plymouth P4. Part numbers 749009 and 74010. Apart from using the Classifed section on this web site, could anyone advise me of where else to advertise for such parts. I am in the UK so not likely to find them here!

I am having problems with a P4 201 cubic engine. it is +30 over bored. i have replaced valve guides and have fitted new valves but when warm the engine is pumping oil out of the rear breather tube. I have removed the head and the bores seem quite oily. the rings were new when I rebuilt the engine (it came as two disassembled engines). Does anyone know if this engine can be rebored to +40 and if there are (or were) piston sets available. I am in the UK and cannot find any here!¬
  12. i am rebuilding a Plymouth P4 engine. When i bought the car, which hade been completely dismantled, there were two engines also completley dismantled. I have two sets of valve springs which are different lengths. Can anyone tell me what length the springs should be?
  13. Thanks for info. i have not removed existing guides yet but will note which way up they are! The sizes I have are taken from the Pymouth service manual 1936 - 1942 (one with red cover)
  14. Hi i am in the UK and currently rebuilding my Chrysler Wimbedon (Plymouth P4) engine and will be changing the valve guides. The factory specification gives reaming dimensions in decimal points of an inch , 0.342-0.343 for inlet and 0.344 - 0.345 for exhaust. Converting these to imperial fractions they both end up as 11/32". Can anyone tell me if this is corect? All help gratefully received!

  18. I have been looking for sway bar links for my 1937 Chrysler Wimbledon (P4) for the last couple of years. Apparently not available anymore. does anyone know of an alternative or modification that retains the original sway bar?

As the advice given was invaluable, I can only offer the true drinking habits of this Engishman: Tea with Breakfast Coffee mid morning Tea with Lunch Tea Mid afternoon Coffee after dinner If in the garage, add two more teas and two more coffees! All taken without sugar or sweeteners No doubt more queries will follow - what this space!

Help! restoring a 1937 Chrysler Wimbledon here in UK (Plymouth P4) This was purchased in a completely dismantled state down to the last nut and bolt. it came with a spare dismantled engine. i have rebuilt the engine using the best of both including the later type oil strainer. What is baffling me at the moment is that there does not appear to be any oil circulating. i have disconnect oil pressure pipe and lines to oil filter (all new). have cleaned out and checked pressure relief valve is working ok. I have changed the oil pump but both pumps seem ok - not a lot of slack. but there doesn't seem to be any way to prime pumps. Any suggestions gratefully received!
