  1. Great resource. I was looking for this. I ended up buying one a year or so go but good to have it digital.
  2. Thanks for the heads up. I currently have a Plymouth steering wheel on the car and I am trying to get it back to a proper DeSoto steering wheel. I may have another long shot lead that I am going to follow.
  3. Thanks for the info. I need to figure out what components I have. Now I am thinking I might have '49 parts.
  4. Andy, I actually have three reference materials that have been trying to use. However without having images it is a bit hard to confirm what parts I really need. I have two parts manuals and a shop manual but they are not revealing what I am trying to figure out. The parts catalog had a drawing but again did not contain the info I need but gave me an idea of what is behind the horn button. The parts list manuals only had a list of part numbers but no schematic for the steering wheel components. The shop manual did not have a good schematic of the steering wheel components. So I am left doing a lot of guessing and searching. If you know of a good parts manual to use or can send the image from the one you have that would be greatly appreciated.
  5. So after consulting with one of the fine members of this forum they pointed out that I am dealing with a "Frankenstein" of steering wheel parts. It looks like I have a '50 horn ring and a '50 horn center emblem ... but the steering wheel I have might be a '52. So my search and quest continue. And I don't have any of the internal parts. The car currently has a Plymouth steering wheel but I am not sure of the year. So I am not even sure if the internals of that will work with the steering wheel components I have. The quest continues.
  6. Sniper, I already tried there. The cars they had that matched what I needed had the steering wheels already removed and/or the internal components were not available. Thank you though. I will have to just keep searching.
  7. Hey all ... I am trying to cast the net as wide as I can to find a few parts (I honestly did not think it would be as challenging as it has been). I am trying to restore a 1950 Desoto S-14. I have been on a quest to find the necessary components to connect a steering wheel to the steering column and all the mechanisms that go under the center emblem that makes the horn work. I have a steering wheel, the horn ring, and the wheel horn button center emblem (see picture). But I do not have all the stuff to connect the horn ring (springs, spacers, bearings, cushion, nuts) to the steering wheel nor do I have the stuff to attach the steering wheel to the steering column. Currently the car has a Plymouth steering wheel. I am hearing that the Plymouth and Desoto internal mechanisms for the horn are different. If anyone has a lead on the parts that I need it would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Hey folks I am looking for a bit of assistance. I have a 1950 DeSoto S-14 that I am working on. I notice that the decorative trim between the trunk deck and the rear window does not seat flush against the body. It appears that it is missing several trim clips. I want to pull the trim off without damaging it so I can see what type of clips are currently being used to hold the piece in place. I am looking for some advice because I don't want to damage it by using the brute force method if that is not the right approach. I would appreciate any tips on how to remove it. I would also appreciate any recommendations on the type of clip that should be used to hold the trim in place. I was looking at the parts manual and I am not finding the part number for the clip. I was looking at Ebay and saw some 3/4" - 1 5/8" molding clips (which are supposed to be compatible with my car). But I am not sure if they are what I need. Any advice here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance friends.
  9. Plymjim... Thanks for the detailed info! I say your PM and responded.
  10. And I will need to find some type of spring as well so I can adjust/align the brake. I will find something at the hardware store. I am guessing a 3/4" spring of some sort.
  11. Gents, I have that chart however it does not provide a description of the screw size or thread pattern. Short of trial and error I am not sure what other option I have.
  12. Folks, I am trying to fix the emergency brake on a vehicle I acquired (1950 Desoto Custom). It has the band style transmission brake on it. The problem is the bolt that secures the brake to the transmission is missing. Does anyone have any idea what size and type bolt it should be? Parts manual calls for a 4-06-3. I have no idea what that equates to. The emergency brake on my 1950 dodge is a different setup. Thanks in advance for the assistance. I figured I would ask before going to home depot and buying one of every bolt I think it could be.
  13. Keith... I have watched several of your videos. Very informative... Thanks. With all the work that you have done on your cars I am surprised you have anything left to do.
  14. Ok folks. I am on the fence here on if I want to try to tackle the removal of my fladhead 6 with fluid drive out of my 1950 Desoto. I have some leaks that need to be addressed ... mainly the rear main seal. I have never attempted to do this before so I would appreciate any advice and recommendations that I can get from forum members. I am going to start labeling all the electrical wires to disconnect. I have a shop manual which I have started to study to see how all the major systems are connected. I am hopeful this will be a good learning opportunity for me; I am just nervous about taking the plunge. Again I would appreciate any recommendations. I have seen a few videos on YouTube (for example Keith's) but as you all already know there are very few videos about these old MOPARS.
  15. Rich, Thank you for the feedback. I thought that might be the case so I decided not to go. You have validated that I made the right decision to stay home. If nothing hopefully you had a nice drive. Theo
  16. I was thinking about going because I am looking for some steel fender skirts for my '50 coronet. I however hate to travel that far to come back empty handed. If anyone some or has a lead on some I would be very appreciative.
  17. Thanks for the advice. I was able to change the bulbs without issue. Now everything is working again. I may have been overthinking it ... but I just wanted to be cautious not to damage anything.
  18. This is what I used... Think I got it at Lowes.
  19. Cool... this is extremely helpful. Looks similar to what I saw when I shined a flashlight in the back of my dash. What I did not want to do was pull on something that should be twisted and break something. It is not like I can go to the local auto zone to find a replacement.
  20. Hey gang ... I knew it was only a matter of time before the lights behind one or more of my gauge clusters would go out on my 1950 Dodge Coronet. While driving last night my fuel/oil pressure cluster went dark on me. I don't want to break anything so I would appreciate any advice anyone could offer on how to remove and replace the old bulb. Plus there is not much space behind the dash to work. I am sure it is something relatively easy... I am probably over thinking it. Looking at the resources page on this forum I know I need to order a few #55 bulbs. Thanks in advance for any guidance folks.
  21. Very cool... and congratulations. Wish I had garage space... oh well.
