  1. Everything has been through the ultrasonic cleaner and is looking pretty good. Let the rebuild begin.........
  2. Alrighty fellas, An update: I managed to get the mystery carb apart and cleaned up to make things run a lot better so I can shake out my tune up before introducing a new carb. My first carb job and good training. I also started the rebuild of the Carter B&B DTE2 carb, and have run across something I want to check on. In the Mikes Carbs rebuild video, it shows a long arm going from the choke mechanism to the fast idle cam. The carb I have has neither the long arm or the high-idle cam. I am chocking this up to being a slightly different carb. Does that make sense based on your experience?
  3. An update just received a Carter DTE2 that I understand was original for this engine (thanks Ken) and have a rebuild kit on the way from Mikes Carbs.
  4. An update. 1. Thanks to Ken, I have a Carter Ball and Ball on the way to replace the mysterious carb I have. 2. I was able to tweak the existing carb to run smooth at idle and went through the engine. Everything else looks good. Still have that missing issue and poor power at speed, but pretty sure this is the engine starving for fuel with the low fuel pressure I am setting for a smooth idle. 3. I have ordered stock parts for the ignition: Coil, wires, points, condenser, rotar and cap. When these come in (this week) I will do the tune up and timing check with the current carb to verify everything works. 5. Then I will rebuild the Carter and put it on. Hopefully be good to go! I can not thank you enough for helping out this Newbie and will post progress as I get along. Thanks, Doug
  5. Thanks for all the input and to Ken for providing a Carter carb for rebuild. I am going in the direction of rebuilding. Sniper, I would greatly appreciate any tricks or tips you have for this process. Thanks.
  6. I have a 1953 Plymouth L6 218CID engine and need to get the parts to do a tune up. Any suggestions for a good source for parts?
  7. Greetings all, I am working on a 1954 P24, L6 218cid engine and need parts for a tune up and replacement carb. Suggestions for good sources?
  8. Anyone ever purchased a Uremco 13-1306 - UREMCO Remanufactured Carburetors
  9. Hi Sniper. Thanks so much. The main issue I have is that I dont have the right carb body to rebuild, but will use your link if i find one that I needs a rebuild. The carb manuals are super helpful! Thanks so much. Doug
  10. Totally agree. I think the pressure regulator was mounted to compensate for the alien carb that has been mounted. It is going away and I will take the pressure regulator out to start with. Still pondering carb options. Who has experience buying rebuilt carbs or carb kits? Any one particularly recommended. Anyone or source to avoid?
  11. Not sure if it makes a difference, but the Serial on the engine is P24*309002a which I understand to mean it is a 1953 Plymouth L6 218CID motor. The Willys truck still has its manual choke pull so I could run the manual choke. Also the exhaust manifold heat riser system has been disabled. With all this in mind, my understanding is that a manual choke would be better. From what I have read I think: The specific carb model that is stock is the Carter D6H2. - rebuilt around $300 The Holley that seems to be proposed is the 1904 - rebuilt around $300 The YF knockoff is an inexpensive option - aound $100 The Weber 2 barrel with plate is around $300 from Vintage Power Wagons Thoughts?
  12. Hi Greg, I love Holleys. Maybe I am missing something as I am new to these engines, but I understood the 1953 P24 is an inline flathead 6 not a slant 6. Perhaps I am wrong, but here is a reference. https://www.t137.com/registry/help/otherengines/pengines.html I am only trying to make sure I find a reasonable match for the engine. Do you have a suggestion for a Holley model? The only markings I can find on this old carb are some stamps across the base: on one side has CLC and on the other 0512. Thus I am starting to doubt the availability of a rebuild kit. The YF carbs are also a good suggestion and I have found one more solution. Vintage Power Wagons sells a kit to mount a 2 barrel Weber carb on the engine. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxzO_Oy1EMLILVpJbF9UbXNoRVk/view Decisions decisions and as a newby to these engines, I could use some wisdom here.
  13. Any suggestions for other carbs are welcome.
  14. Not the slant 6. A Flathead inline 6. Precursor to the 230.
