  1. The build seems to be going smoothly enough and it is looking good Brad. Congratulations on your retirement! Terry
  2. Yes, I like your truck. I'll look you up to see if you have posted more photos. As for your transmission, I'm thinking a good place to begin is to lift the gear box cover plate and look for the synchro shift plates and stop rings, located along side of the clutch gear. its possible the gear box is non-synchronous.? T.
  3. I refinished the bracket as it was quite rusted but the roadside markers are original paint, I haven't touched them. Its raining here this morning so I took these photos in the garage for you. T.
  4. Thanks Rodney Hamon, there is no need to double clutch.
  5. Thanks PT Moe. I used rough cut white ash for the bed and left the rough side up.
  6. Thankyou Dodgeboy49. That's quite the corral of vintage wheels you have collected!
  7. The rough cut side is up and seems to have worked out just fine. Thanks ggdad1951.
  8. Thought I would share a few photos of my recently restored 1951 half ton. The work took twenty some years to plan and two years to complete. While the job was in progress, I discovered this web site and asked a few questions on your forum and received plenty of feedback, which was very much appreciated. I have to thank the master mechanic (and friend) that did the work and tolerated my presence. I learned a lot in the process ! I've just received the safety check certification. The truck is now licensed for the road and will be used as a daily driver, so long as it doesn't rain, snow, blow debris, dark clouds, traffic . . . . . . ? Thanks again for your enthusiastic help on the forum fellows. Terry Original L shape, 218 cu. in. engine. Three speed (on the tree). Electrical converted to 12 volt negative ground, with 12 volt alternator. Added front wheel disc brakes. added seat belts.
  9. OK, thanks a bunch for the feed back everyone. My internet search of the three options doesn't appear to indicate a clear choice, specific to the 1951 Dodge L6 engine with a 12 volt conversion. I'm not a real confident mechanic (really, that's what brought me here in the first place), so I am thinking I will make a few phone calls to the various manufacturers, based on the good feedback I have received from you folks. Then I will go forward from there with a lot of input from the auto mechanic (40 years experience) doing the work on my truck. At the end of the day, I can always stick with the original ignition configuration. Nothing wrong with that. The assistance you guys have offered is very much appreciated. You fellows are great! Thank you, Terry.
