  1. Had the exact same issue with my '50 Coronet, ran great up to about 30-35, then started missing terribly. Removed points and installed a pertronix, no more problems. I believe the springs in the points plate were worn and to be honest didn't want to be messing with points. Wes
  2. Got this valve for my '50 Coronet. Works great. A little pricey, but not as expensive as some have said they found. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Water-Heater-Control-Valve-1688946-fits-Dodge-Chrysler-Plymouth-DeSoto-1955-1956/112176543764?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Wes
  3. If I'm not mistaken, the heater control valve has a bi-metallic spring which adjusts the amount that the valve opens based on temperature in the cabin, which the capillary tube senses.
  4. Stromberg made a carb fro the M6 transmission as well. I believe the number is BXVD-3, (or close to that) I bought a Stromberg for my 50 Coronet with the M5 transmission, and I think the number was BXVD(without the extra number) Hope this helps.
  5. I have a '50 Coronet. Front seat cushion just lifts out. It's wedged in pretty good, but it will come out. To put it back in, I usually use a plastic pry bar along the front to ease it back down into the skirt.
  6. Don't have the gyromatic in my Coronet, but sounds like your RPMs may be too high. Your RPMs should be around 450 at ide.
  7. I use a voltmeter. Didn't like the high amperage of an ammeter flowing behind the dash. I did however strip down a voltmeter and mounted it using the original ammeter gauge. Reads backwards, but tells me that my alternator is charging properly.
  8. Sounds like your floats are set too high, overfilling the bowl. Had the same problem after I rebuilt my carb.
  9. Had the same issue with my '50 Coronet. Got rid of the points and went with a Pertronix electronic ignition. No problems since.
  10. Drove the Coronet in to work this week. Co-worker took this pick at the diner where we ate lunch.
  11. There is a tutorial floating around showing how to replace the bulb on the capillary tube. I had the same issue. Had two temp gauges, both missing the bulbs. Bought a new mechanical temp gauge with a bulb, followed the tutorial. Little bit of tubing, solder, ice, and about 10 minutes of labor and works perfect.
  12. I installed this voltage reducer from e-bay ahead of the wiper switch. Wipers work just fine. VOLTAGE Reducer Regulator 12 Volts to 6 volts 25 AMP HOTROD VINTAGE ANTIQUE CAR
  13. I have that style on my 1950 Coronet. I've been looking for one for my rear passenger door handle as well. Seem to be rare as hen's teeth. Wes
  14. Did more or less the same thing. I used a blue tooth radio with a remote. Mounted it high behind the speaker grill so the remote pick-up was in line of sight for the remote (but not readily visible unless you're really looking for it). Speakers in the kick panels. Used the remote to operate radio. Original buttons and dials just for show.
  15. Guys, Y'all have been helpful. Getting me in the right direction. Now the million dollar question...anyone know where a guy could score an R6 or R7 overdrive unit?
  16. Hi guys, I have a 1950 Coronet with 230 and an M5 with fluid drive coupling. I'd really like to replace the transmission with one with overdrive for highway driving. Any direct swaps? Thanks, Wes
  17. Anyone have a source for the lower clip for the dashpot rod on a stromberg BXVD? Thanks, Wes
  18. Just bought a 1950 Dodge Coronet in really good shape. However, heater hoses have been re-routed and do not run through the heater box in the engine compartment. There also appears that there should be a cable running to maybe a flapper door on the heater box that is missing. Can anyone help me with proper hose routing and tell me about the missing cable? There is absolutely no info in the shop manual regarding the heater set-up. Thanks, Wes
