  1. Dave - I have done the conversion on the same Autolite Distributor Summit Racing has the kits and correct coil PerTronix kit is 1362 Pertronix Coil is 40611 Steve R
  2. In hindsight 3.55 would be better, the Flathead labors a bit starting out, but now the truck can cruise easily at 60 mph The other alternative would have been to hop up the engine I did communicate with Tony Smith at Mopar Montana about building up the Flathead - they can build quite a Flathead that would have handled the 3.23 ratio fine. (10K - 12K depending on some of the components - I have the build sheet if anyone is interested) I ended up sticking with the stock engine. As far as the Wheel and Tire combo, I did quite of bit of reviewing the original truck specs and the dimension changes from the E-Body rear (slightly narrower) and the Scarebird Disc brakes (adds 3/4" on each side if I remember correctly) I stayed with 16 inch rims, the tires are from Diamond Back and I tried to keep close to the original tire height Fronts are 16 x 6 with 4 in backspace - tires 225/70R-16 Rears are 16 x 8 with 4 in backspace - tires are 255/70R-16 Steve R
  3. Thanks to all for the compliments Yes the gauges are the originals I am running an Alternator - I used the conversion kit from Vintage Auto Garage Steve R
  4. Just finished a year long restoration of my 1954 Dodge PU - a few upgrades but mostly original Disc Brakes, 12 Volt, sure grip 8 3/4 (3.23 ratio) rear end, Diamond Back Radial Wide Whites on 16" Rims Thought I would share the results Thanks Steve R
  5. I am looking to upgrade my front brakes to Disc, I have looked at the kits from the Ram Man, Scarebird and AAJ, I want to keep the master cylinder under the floorboard with the original pedal setup. I am upgrading the complete rear end to an early 1970's 8 3/4 with the factory Drum brake setup. Any members done this (under floorboard) setup with these kits, I did see the frame mounting plate from Scarebird that should help with keeping the MC in the original position. Ram Man says that there MC is for mounting on the firewall - although it is probably possible to fab the mounting for under the floorboard. AAJ has not gotten back to me yet. Any feedback on either of these kits? Thanks Steve R
  6. OK thanks for the info - if I stay with a Flathead, I would go with a reground cam and hi-compression head from Edgy-Mopar Montana, and then the dual carbs and header setup So I could start with a fresh short block I just got my reprinted Parts Manuals - I am going to look over the V8 conversion, from everything I have read the early poly (scallopped valve covers) and early Hemi are the same block So I would think either V8 would go in. On the 265, I need to keep doing my homework before I decide - I do like the idea of a vintage hop-up on the 6, granted more expensive and less HP than either of the V8's I also like the later 318 Poly - had one in my first car - cool engine!
  7. I have a 1954 Dodge C1-B6 with the 230 in engine and 3 speed manual, I am considering the performance options for this engine and then found the rebuilt 251 engine that Sun Valley has advertised. Is this a bolt in swap? What adjustments - changes have to be made to fit the 25" block into the PU https://losangelesmachineshop.com/chrysler-251-flathead-inline-6-spitfire-engine-rebuild/ Not sure if the extra 21 cubes are really worth the trouble - anybody's thought on this? Thanks
