  1. `I am assuming that you are referring to call-out numbers 41 & 44 I am assuming the "Crown Gear" is the 'Ring' gear # 46 and that you want a .008" backlash between #45 & 46
  2. My first car was a 65 Barracuda. 225 Slant 6 with auto tranny. I bought it in 71 for $525 with 40k on the clock. I sold it in 79 for $100 with 115k on the clock. It was the best car I ever owned. Always started even in the Minnesota winters with -27 degree temps. Welcome to the group!
  3. Here is what happened. While I reinstalled my tranny and hooking up the drive shaft. I wanted to know what gear ratio I had. When I turned the drive shaft I noticed it would turn about 1/8 turn before the wheels would turn. I tried this several times in both directions. That was about a month ago. Yesterday when reversing I noticed a clunk coming from the rear end whenever I let the clutch out. It only happened when in reverse and not going forwards. I assumed it to be the gear backlash or am I missing something else?
  4. They don't call it Arm Strong Steering for nothing.
  5. I have noticed the backlash in my rear end needs tightening up. I believe that shims are needed but where do I get a supply of shims or am I going to need new gears? If I need new gears what ratio?
  6. Can I crash the party with my 37 P-4 Plymouth?
  7. Do you have the stock 13" wheels or are they 14" My 65 Bacaruda had the 13" with manual steering. I never found it a problem. But I only had bias-ply tires However my 37 Plymouth with 16" radials is tough when parking.
  8. Your blue wire carries a 6vdc to your gauge The brown wire looks to be your 6vdc supply to the switch Turning on the switch should operate your fuel gauge.
  9. I was burnt on my leg with caustic soda (an alkaline) at work. (New job and only worked there 7 days) It took 6 months for the skin on my leg to grow back. After the Dr. said I was lucky. They have seen amputations with a burn like what I had. The difference between acid and alkaline is an acid will dilute itself. Alkaline, caustic soda, does not and can only be washed away by water for 30 minutes or more until a proper ph can be achieved. skin ph is slightly acid (6.8) my leg measured 9 after 30 minutes of flushing with water. That was 5 years ago. I have scaring and still no feeling in that portion of my leg from that accident. Lesson: Caustic soda may clean very well but it is a harsh chemical. Wear gloves if you use it. Better yet use something else.
  10. LOL I think we have all been there, ? if not several times?
  11. This might help from Wikipedia " The DeSoto Diplomat is an automobile produced by DeSoto from 1946 to 1962 for sale in export markets other than the United States and Canada. The export DeSoto based on the Plymouth was first introduced in 1937 and was built in Detroit. Chrysler Corporation of Canada, which before 1947 enjoyed "Imperial Preference" (reduced tariff barriers in British empire markets) and did not start building export DeSotos until late in the 1939 model year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeSoto_Diplomat
  12. Be careful when ordering from them if you are overseas. They have a standard shipping rate of $65. I was going to order a Clutch Centering Tool at $4-5. Then I noticed the shipping for that tool was $65. I made a tool on my lathe.
  13. Is it possible you could make one yourself?
  14. I think it's called 'Old Age'.
  15. I remember on my 65 Barracuda with a 225 Slant 6 in Minnesota, on a cold start, I would depress the gas peddle all the way down, then release, then 1/2 way down and start the engine. It never failed even in -27 deg temps. Now on my 37 Plymouth with an electric fuel pump, I turn on the pump wait a few seconds, pull the choke full and hit the starter. As soon as the engine fired I push the choke in. Never fails.
  16. I had a problem with my 37 Push starter. I had 2 problems: 1) The switch on top of the starter (your photo) had worn areas so I applied solder to those areas to build them up. 2) My starter quit completely. I took apart the starter and found the 4 brushes worn out and actually twisted. The commutator was scored and black. I replaced the brushes and turned the Commutator on my lathe, reassembled it, and have had no problems since.
  17. you may have to get a 12vdc and install a small transformer to boost your 6vdc to 12 to operate a modern aftermarket gauge. The problem may come in getting the proper ohmns reading. or maybe change your sending unit as well. you would still need a transformer. like this one. Be aware this one is from the UK Ebay where I live. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384751611375?hash=item5994fbadef:g:kMIAAOSwvbFiAg5m&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8GrBitfNY1bi%2FNWn3Qesx5w%2FBTC2DdOWd%2BCqiLDwS8mfupeEiN497nOtAxCI13DxZolpwYIeMHPu1dAVHfYgScPtvBwpf0eFsdjqbKLHh4A5BYciWmrRrn9cEzVP%2FTTYYctMnAXm6DDUFKhkKch9piHsfO4J3AFjFm9NFcehYtLDs0B96RVjZDPQQ3BGpX3%2BSglGPFbsGkKimjJbi8cPiaBr%2B4O4LeolQvfsbRihx9d1tjD9wOUb3nAPNQWKfQAP9GABzWIcOqHOvfrn5QpGYlSLRjIOEk5weTCiBIz7EZ8aXEw1GgrOxymUoS9nb5yAGA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR6yAnOzjYA TRANSFORMER: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/403801691696?hash=item5e0474d630:g:tyYAAOSwXQpi4jNI&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8KC04HNDaZYGOYQtdgxjB9JcixaQ1VYxd67et9VorqerlDT7f9becuTM2YH%2FJ%2BEe1wTihSaFE6R3CGKNtGD4MtX16tPk8ig%2BQUJY98wL5wGkYLieEhutD%2F6aCDNeSBxkWt7JBhLIwxCKjZZ1jMfEbpwbf11yvwS1XpF5DMf11mRhhzUBvniaLzDvwPhRoTtQNo1xXQRf8P1JjQs0qLV%2F%2FCm57lWCixUlc7tqZCgyuz1z9zSzfU9CH7v0%2FgZF8%2BkdQ4MspTU19NOXwAXYkO%2FK5v6O62GXDDYAfZwoAAoRsMGLrxHw97Jpe3kxqRrG%2BI65Rw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR7iehofmYA
  18. My gauge didn't work in my car. it had been converted to 12 vdc. I was able to put a 6-12vdc transformer in and it worked. Your car is different from mine I believe. I had a look on ebay they seem to operate on ohms. Have you put a meter on yours to determine the resistance (ohms) range? perhaps others with your year car are better equipped with the knowledge than me.
  19. What is wrong with the original fuel gauge?
  20. Nice looking car and a great find. You're in the right forum any questions ask away. ?
  21. I need the $60 first + the $30 for shipping to England...?☹️!
  22. My 65 bacaruda was the 225 slant 6 auto. I use to get 26-28 mpg. I sold her with over 100k on the clock and no problems except rust, which is why I sold her.
  23. Not me. I'm 69 years and still have blond hair. Yes there is some gray but most of what I have is blond. My granny had a lovely head of white hair with a large strip of blond in it.
  24. 64 was the first year of the Barracuda and the only year that had the Push-button tranny. I had the 65 Barracuda with Auto tranny and the shift lever was on the floor. It was the best car I ever owned except for my 1990 Dodge Dakota
