  2. A 49 doesn't have a true VIN it has a serial number. I believe all you can decode from it is what plant it was built in and an approximate production time.

  3. Class today on "Vent Tubes". Mike's Carbs' diagrams and instructions cover a thin tube that goes up at an angle from under the main body, No. 36, the "Tube -Main Vent". "Do not remove it unless you have a special tool." OK, I won't. Then there's that slotted brass thing at the lower left, for which I am awaiting the special tool, known only as a "Vent Tube"? This is the Fluid Drive, automatic choke carb, so it must have a special function, something to do with the large chamber beside it? Dashpot? Yes! My Shop Manual shows all sorts of dashpot parts. I should be working off the diagram in the Shop Manual, to supplement the instructions that came with the repair kit. Happy days.

  4. It might be the presure relief valve inthe MC. I had a similar situation inwhich the pedal was working and then it would go to the floor, but no loss of brake fluid. It was off and on situation. Pull all four drums to determine no leakage. Took the MC out of the which is under the floor on a 39 Desoto took the MC apart and did a rebuild on the internal parts. Left the pressure relief value the old one onthe table. The next day looked at it very closely and then found a very small slit in the rubber gasket. This was allowing the fluid to not build up pressure so the pedal woud go to the floor. After replacing the vale the issue was corrected. Also check the wheel cylinder belled screws to make sure they are not leaking any fluid at the threads where they screw into the wheel cylinder. Rich Hartung

  5. I replaced mine with one designed to activate at a lower pressure; I think an old Jeep application? A bit of net searching should find it for you. The wiring connectors were different but it works well. I believe in this case I had installed it prior to bleeding but I've installed one on another vehicle without having to bleed. Just have to be quick

  6. It has been two years since my last post and a lot has happened. Summer two years ago I was bit by a tick while in Maine and now have the Lyme infection, I found it very early and took all the meds required so not sure if my fatigue and week legs are results. Then last October I broke a leg and that set me back three months, then a light case of covid following those two. So things have been very slow, Im about 30% of what I was three years ago. I’m finally back in the shop, can sometimes put in six ours, but mostly 3 or 4. Been working on the suburban, this week i think i will paint it. Tomorrow will primer then more prep. Regarding the coupe, i still have it. My grandson and his friend want to get it fixed up for Zach’s school car. I told them I would guide them but will not turn one bolt, they were fine with that.
