  1. 6 mil plastic sheeting and butyl sealant tape is how the factory did for many years. Use your cards as a pattern to cut the sheeting, slightly smaller ouside dimensions, and the butyl tape to hold the sheeting to inner door.

  4. I have basic tools, in plastic cases, that I've given myself for Father's day, for each of my 5 vehicles. I've used them for myself sparingly, but have helped a few others here and there. Basically though, I would rely on my phone to call Roadside assistance which is part of my insurance policies.

  5. I can not argue with the high price of everything today .... $22K for a Dodge seems pretty high. They never did sell for that price a few years ago. $15K seemed to be a high quality truck purchase? Your photos show a good looking truck, I think it would need to be in pristine condition to be priced higher then others ..... Your photos do not show that. What do I know, I .... Just my opinion. I feel if it was a chebby or a Ferd, the $22k would be in line. They have every part available aftermarket & a big following for them. .... And they have sold for that price. A Dodge, they are not popular, there is not a huge line of aftermarket parts for them, used parts are hard to come by .... The value or popularity is not there ..... Just a personal opinion, A Dodge truck a couple years ago would not sell for $22k .... Maybe today they do.

  8. We strolled through the hills for about 160 miles today. The trees are petty and all the little streams are flowing nicely. Had a good time and the old car chugged right along. My math tells me I got a little over 18mpg, can that be right?

  10. I am envious....while I surely love the general 365 weather for getting out and about here in middle Georgia, come autumn, I surely miss the hills of my home state...well I miss them for all seasons but, the colorful autumns are just so memorable.

  14. Ditto Sniper's recommendation. That's how I did the door cards for my Beetle three years ago. Plenty o' rain up here to put them to the test and they're holding up quite well.

  16. Can go either way with CA DMV. My 49 is registered by the engine/frame number with a reference to the body serial number on the title My 47 is registered by the body serial number. The engine has no numbers on it and the frame numbers are unreadable. Never mentioned this and the CHP just went to the body number. You DO NOT want DMV assigning you a VIN if possible!! My 56 Ford Panel is registered by the body serial number located in the same place as my Mopars.

  17. Complements the exterior color scheme nicely Clay. Very 1940s I say. You will certainly enjoy adding the trim bits.

  22. Past month I have been working some more on the truck. I feel like I was getting burned out with disassembly & painting. I needed to teach myself to weld to do the body patches ahead of me .... I blew up the engine in my wife car .... I think I took a year off working on the pilothouse ... Anyways back at it with a bit of a urgency to put it on the road as a 2nd vehicle. Most of the frame is painted & already dusty. Last part is under the cab. I have some welding to do on the floor before paint. I have a patch panel in the back of the cab to make .... easy stuff to do. ..... I just have so many pieces scattered around that need paint and put away out of my work space. ... So I have been concentrating on those pieces just to get them out of the way. I did the "farmer fix" on the side shovel strips. These are strips from a old bed frame the neighbor threw away. I did drill out the old spot welds on the bed side, I spot welded the new strip in place .... I did not feel comfortable with the installation. The angle iron is thicker, heavier, wider then the originals, I've already decided I'm going to run seam sealer down the edge. I went ahead & welded the edges also. Now I feel comfortable with the repair. In my defense I'm repairing junk. This is not a concourse restoration .... This truck took a hit of some sort on this side. The dent in the cab corner, the ripped & smooshed rear fender. the top rail on the bedside is bent, the running board is bent. We call the rust a "Texas suntan" While we can deal with the rust, I used acids. .... Yeah it sucks but works. Yet you are still left with pitted metal. .... Primer will fill most the pits .... why I'm using a few coats of primer. Just asking to not be beat up for farmer fixes. Just at a weird scheduling point right now. I need to start fitting the new gas tank to make the rear mount. I need to patch the floor before paint ..... getting ready for rear brake line, tail light wiring .... wood for the bed ... It is going together ... my wife is pushing me on it .... Just saying once I blew up the motor in her car. Then with current inflation I suggested to her it would be cheaper to fix the pilothouse since we already have the parts. She is pushing me to get it on the road because she wants her car in the shop next. ???

  23. I think its funny when the boy racers here rev up their little 4 poppers with glass packs. They think they sound so tough until I rev up my 230 with a genuine 1960s glass pack. Ya I know they are a lot faster than me, but they don't know that and our Miss Daisy is 85 years old. The only way their car will reach 85 years is as a baked bean can. Lol

  24. Evening fellas, I joined the site a while back and have been reading up on a few topics and just generally finding my bearings here and figured it was about time I introduced myself as I will be asking a few questions time to time. I have pretty much completed my '65 Barracuda project for some time now and was looking for another project, performing a chop on a vehicle has been on my bucket list for some time now. During my search I came across a very solid 1949 Chrysler Windsor Club Coupe, all the brightwork and glass intact and a solid body except front floors. For some reason it just spoke to me, and I ended up purchasing it. I will not be chopping this car as I feel it is too nice a candidate to perform such on........... so in the mean-time my search continues for the chop candidate. Plans for the time being is heading up to Arkansas during Thanksgiving so the wife can see her mother and I can haul the 49 back to FL. It still retains the running L6 and Fluid Drive, will get it back to FL and clean it up a bit and decide what direction to take it in, will not be going down the shiny paint road as I did with the Cuda. I just need a project to putz around with when I am home...between work and airboating I like to have something to wrench on ..... most likely will perform a drive train transplant at some point as will not be able to help myself. I have attached my new project for your viewing pleasure ........

  25. What I mean is .... I love this build thread, the guy has so much energy and powered right through it and built a great truck. While my project is much more milder ... & slower ???. I have different expectations. My goal is to put it back to functioning original as much as possible. It will be the most simple way possible & the cheapest just to fix what I have. My biggest goal right now is putting paint on places that has not seen paint in many years. Getting grease & lube to all the places needed ... rewire it & drive it. 90% of my driving is in town between 25mph - 35mph .... Once or twice a month I will drive 25 miles to the next town. I'm happy with a truck that will drive 45-50 mph. This is my build. Point is @Radarsonwheels builds a great truck. .... Myself I will build my truck, I will love driving it at 35mph around town to do my business. What does @Solgawant? .... what condition is your original truck in? Daydreaming is good ... most prominent builders will sit in a chair for hours staring at their vehicle deciding what they want to do. These are only questions you can answer.
