  1. Any Color will do Chesnut etc. Against tan etc. Try using a large Feather to twist run it along making Grains. Finish with 10 coats of Clear Sealer Oh Baby what a finish!

  2. I wonder what your floor looks like? .... This would be a good time to use heat on the bolts to free them up. If they are fully painted, with insulation, undercoating .... heat could be a bad thing.

  3. Although it's kinda not right.... for the retired senior fire truck use the adapter will not be restrictive at low speed use IMO.?

  4. That striped broadcloth looks just like my 48 DeSoto upholstery. But it looks brand new! How can that be as they don't make that style anymore?

  5. If only slightly worn you could do what I did on both my trucks. Cut them off and move them to the opposite side so the wear ends up at the bottom. Also the bushings are the same as early jeeps so if you just need those you can buy jeep kits for way cheaper and just not use the U. I did that on the rear of my 47 and used the entire jeep shackle on the fronts.

  6. Just because it’s a 1/2 ton doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll have a 3 speed. 4 speeds were also available in all light trucks.

  7. at this point the trim pieces are so shiny it is hard to get a good photo. so here is a close up to showcase the "grain".

  8. If you just move the plug wires 1 position either way the engine would not run. If you rotated the distributor 180 it would not run ..... The fact it does run tells you it is set to what you need. These engines are known to have sticky valves if they sit for a long period of time, At the valve guides the oil gums up & the springs do not always pull the valves closed. The rings are known to stick to the pistons & not sealing 100% .... The carburetor could have some crud in it. The points could need cleaned. Lots of reasons for it to not run perfect .... the fact it does run I would not be looking at distributor plug wires at this time. Often a few heat cycles will free up the valves & rings, some seafoam in the fuel tank to clean up the carb would not hurt. Time to know more about the vehicle, how long since it was last driven etc...

  9. So with the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley at TDC with the pointer, either the number 1 piston could be at TDC on the compression stroke or it could be the number 6 piston at TDC on the compression stroke. You have said that with the timing mark at TDC your rotor is at the 2 o'clock position. If the spark plug wire on the distributor cap at the 2 o'clock position goes to the number 6 spark plug, then your distributor position is correct and does not have to be changed. If the plug wire at the two o'clock position on the distributor goes to the number 1 spark plug then you distributor is installed 180 degrees out from the published position . To correct it, you can pull the distributor up about 1/2 inch and rotate the rotor shaft until the rotor points to the 7 o'clock position then push the distributor back down into the block and reinstall the retaining bolt. then you have to reinstall the distributor cap and make sure the plug wires go to the correct plugs. Starting at the 7 o'clock position of the distributor that plug wire should go to the number 1 plug. Then in a clockwise rotation the wires should be landed according to the firing order: 1,5,3,6,2,4. Regards

  10. If it runs now don't turn your distributor 180 degrees. The fact that it currently runs tells us that the distributor is setup properly, even though it may not be pointing in the direction you desire. The timing may be off slightly, or the points may not be adjusted properly, but it's close enough to make it run. You just need some fine tuning from here.

  11. Woodslips It is not unusual for an engine that has sat for a long time to run rough for a while after t gets running again. Often the more it runs the better it gets.

  13. I had to laugh at the line ("I know folks in the southwest that tan snake hides with anti-freeze") (speaking of snakes) Vladimir Lenin is mummified in what we use for anti-freeze today. His body has been on display since the 1920s in Red Square. They give him a dunk in the stuff for a week once a year and touch up his makeup. The moisture in his remains has long since left being replaced by the anti-freeze thus achieving the goal that was called "The immortality Project". A little too creepy for my tastes I am afraid. If it has kept Lenin's corpse from stinking for nearly a century, (nothing could help his ideology however) I am sure a few mice won't stink either.

  14. Domiest - nice project car - if you need to check any thing that was original - my 1948 car is an unmolsted one owner 38K mile car. Original paint chrome and wood never refinished. Took the engine out and rebuilt it and detailed the engine compartment. Lot of work to build one of these as factory picture shows I colorized.

  15. Finally got enough things together to fire her up and pull her outside to run for a few minutes. Fired right up like a champ and idles so smoothly. Identify the handful of small leaks to address. Otherwise she's one more step closer to roadworthy. September is pretty busy for me but I've got a few people handling putting new tires on it while I'm gone
