  1. Well on Wednesday i will be driving my 39 Desoto out to Altoona, PA to attend the National Desoto Convention and car show. I will be also meeting up with my good friend that also has a 39 Desoto and we are going to go as a caravan. We will have modern Chase cars. He just had a top-end rebuild on his 39 over the winter months and has been driving the car to break n the 6 new cylinders. We plan on traveling around 50 MPH Both of our cars are 4 door sedan and we do not have overdrive so 50 is our sweet spot for our cars. Hope to get around 12 mpg but will get what we get. The gas price onthe PA turnpike is averaging around $5.25. We decided the PA Turnpike is our best route since it is a two lane road and has service plazas approx every 30-50 miles apart, also has large shoulders. We are going to meetup at a reststop that is located near Carlise,PA. The turnpike gets less traffic after the Harrisburg and Carlise area so we can travel safely on the right lane. We figure approx 5 hours travel time approx distance is 225 miles. Will post pictures of the convention and car show. They have 60 cars registered for the car show. I will be presenting two seminars during the week, the topics are headlights and lens from 1929-61 and also on presentation on the factory Miller tools which will highlight the Miller MT19 Brake shoe Adjusting tool and then the Trubrake tool that was used to trim down the high spot on each brakeshoe lining. Wish us luck for both trips. So if anyone is in the area of Altoona,PA this week come checkout the Convention it is held at the Grand Hotel in Altoona jus off of Exit 31 on I99. Rich HArtung

  4. They are available at most NAPA stores. You may have to wait a day if they have to get them from the warehouse. A decent commercial tire shop, not a chain store catering to cars, can get them or may have them in stock. My tire guy got them in a couple of hours from one of his suppliers. If you run full wheel covers, get the ones with metal stems. Wheel covers will 'walk' and pinch the stem.

  5. What you described is how I have my Plymouth setup. I also have the line as far over to the inner fender and away from the engine heat as possible

  6. If I recall tractor stems are slightly larger and will fit. Tire shops have sealants that will help if needed.

  7. Not sure of the original configuration, but I'd put the fuel filter before the fuel pump inlet and just a straight line from fuel pump outlet to carb. That will keep debris out of the fuel pump.

  8. The original wouldn’t have a filter but adding one is good insurance. Keep the line as far from the manifold as possible. Glass bowl filters that screw into the carb are available also.

  9. A tubing cutter will give you a cleaner, straighter, cut without debris.

  10. How did you measure the clearance? If you measured the journals with a mic, and the same with the insides if the bearings, keep in mind that the bearings will compress slightly once installed. It would be more accurate to mic the bearings after installation, then calculate your clearance.

  11. Always use a razor blade, box cutter, sharp knife or hose cutter to cut fuel hose.. Makes a straight debris free professional cut.?

  13. Not certain, but I think this is what you will find. Prongs around the outside of the socket. The bulb sockets just go in by lining them up, and pushing them into the holes. To remove for bulb change, grasp firmly, and tilt the socket to one side to release. I sometimes let my camera do the looking in the tight spots.

  14. Don, this saddens me to learn of all this.....I knew you had sold the car earlier. It is a very gracious offer to the forum at large and hopefully someone close will respond and receive the items and appreciate them for what they are and what they meant to you. I know it had been some time since you last posted. Tim

  17. I did some work on a rare 29 DeSoto panel a few years ago..it's still here in Washington. A 29 DeSoto of any body type is a cool rare car.
