  1. There's something to be said about the original set of wheels. Even though the mags had a modern look, it still wasn't quite right in my opinion. I finally broke down and ordered the hub caps, beauty rings, and tires. I painted the wheels the same as the running boards and here you have it. So here is my truck back to original form with the exclusion of metallic paint and my preferred paint scheme. At some point I will look for a set of tires to fit my 15" X 6" mag rims that have the same diameter or close as the 6.50-16's.

  4. I want to know who the hell this mystery seller is ... I have been buying a lot on ebay for the 48 , and I don't want to get stuck with some sellers crap .... Can we just say the damn name already ??? I don't care if he's a member here or not , if he's selling garbage he needs to be outed as such so those of us "not in the know" don't get burned ... This has effectively stopped my e-buying for the dodge ....

  6. If you upgrade the brakes and replace the lines and hoses, and then add radial tires, you might not need seat belts.

  7. Here is a link to heater cores listed by size and I think the dimensions are strictly the core and not side tanks, but they do also list the inlet/ outlet sizes. I had to do some mods to make it work, but to have a custom made core was $100, so it was worth it. https://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/heater-cores . Here is the blower motor I used, Oreillys has it listed as a Murray PM 354 for the same price. Good luck! https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/vdo,PM354,blower+motor,6916

  8. First and foremost, put in seat belts, preferably 3-point, before you do anything else. This one upgrade will be the most important thing you do by a long shot. Seat belts first, and use them.

  9. The back roads are a lot quieter these days. Back then, they were the major routes between cities, and clogged with trucks, Sunday drivers, and tractors. No minimum speed limit. Pass, do not pass, deadly game. US 16 between Detroit and Lansing had a third, passing lane, but it had to be "shared"judiciously. Now the old road is two wide lanes and lightly traveled. The two--lane roads, 65 mph, widened near the cities, but the speed limits dropped precipitously, generating much ticket revenue. So, enjoy the back roads, but temper the nostalgia with a few contrary memories.

  12. I saw a message on one of those machines once that said "The gum in this machine tastes like rubber!" I worked after school and Saturdays at a local Gulf service station my last couple of years of high school. I pumped gas, did oil changes, repaired and replaced tires, did brake jobs, tune ups, anything and everything that came in the door. It only paid $1.00 per hour but it was a good experience. The man that owned it was the archetypal service station guy, always neatly dressed in company uniform and hat and insisted that the place was always tidy and clean. I was already a good mechanic and hard worker or I wouldn't have been asked to work there but working for Wesley certainly improved my skills. One of the pluses was that Wes's wife always brought in Saturday dinner. Having always been poor it seemed to me like Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner on a weekly basis, a far cry from the beans, potatoes, and biscuits we ate most of the rest of the time. As Yogi Berra is quoted, "Nostalgia ain't what it useta be" but I will always have fond memories of the many people who befriended me when I was young and gave me an opportunity to improve my life.

  13. BTW,I went to a car show in Pa once when I was up there anyhow buying parts, and one guy had entered a VERY nicely restored 56 Chebby, and had a billboard sign in front of it asking people if they can spot what is different about the car. I walked around it several times, and it sure looked restored and flawless to me,so I finally broke down and asked the guy. He told me to count the doors on both sides. Yup,it was a tudor on the driver side, and a 4dr on the passenger side. He told me he had just finished restoring it and had just got it out of the paint shop when someone ran a red light and centerpunched it. So he used what he had to repair it,the passenger side of his 4dr parts car. He sure was having fun watching people walk around it trying to figure out what was different.
