  1. Hello all, A quick post to introduce myself - I've just bought a '48 Special Deluxe and I'm looking forward to learning about them. I had a '57 Chevrolet 210 for 18 years which I sold about 4 years ago and bought a modern classic but missed having the steering wheel on the wrong side! I've been a member here since spring, but not having a car I was content to lurk reading posts and picking up hints and links. The first thing I've learned here since I got my car is it may not be a '48, but a '49 following spending time in the 'Resources' section checking out the VIN # listings. Best wishes to you all for Christmas and 2017, WeegieBob.

  2. Well folks as 2016 starts to wind down we reflect on the year and what a different year it has been. It seems like just yesterday the new year started and here we are in December! What a magical month December is. The countdown to Christmas is well under way. Santa Claus parades throughout the world. Cities and towns lit up every night with fabulous Christmas light displays. School kids and churches putting on Christmas plays and pageants. Hopefully hearing the sounds of coins and bills dropping in to the bottom of the Salvation Army red kettle drums and other charities receiving support for all the great work they do. The elves at the North Pole working furiously to satisfy the wishes from the tons of letters arriving at the North Pole. Hockey fans counting down the days until the IIHF U20 World Junior Hockey Championship tournament begins (Had to throw in some Canadian Hockey influence here) and visions of getting your Mopar out next spring dancing in many automotive enthusiasts head. I am sure every Mopar fan has made their list of parts they hope to find under the tree Christmas day, and I am sure a lot of good Girls and Boys will find a few Mopar related items boxed up for them. I definitely know the AoK boys shipped a lot of stuff to the North Pole recently as, well we subcontract to Santa for some of those harder Mopar items that his elves have a difficult time to make! lol We often get Christmas cards and Christmas wishes, many come in different forms as technology evolves. Here is one of our favourites containing a lot of our favourite things - a Fargo pickup (great for hauling presents), a little Mopar Period Performances additions, and of course that it has Santa ! On behalf of the Asche family; George Jr and his sons George III & Rob, the Kingsbury family; Tim and his son Dan, collectively known as the AoK boys, we wish one and all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Years!

  3. It's been a while and thought I would post a couple pics of the 38 progress. It finally moved under it's own power yesterday. Really happy with the Langdons dual carb and electronic ignition upgrade. Now to wire the rest of the car. The American Autowire Highway kit is really nice and should be a breeze. Merry Christmans to All. Steve Charleston SC

  7. Hi all, the 50s Plymouth overdrive I have in my 1940 plymouth coupe has been jumping out of top gear lately. I have changed the side plate, changed the detent balls and springs, modified the springs and adjusted the shift linkages but it is still jumping out of top gear. Along with the oil leaks I would like to pull the the whole lot down and rebuild it but do not know where to get a rebuild kit for it. I'm in Australia and have had no luck yet. Does anyone know where I can get one? Thanks

  11. A very beautiful example for sure. Hope you enjoy it a lot. Scotland is one of the few places outside the US that I always wanted to see.

  13. Merry Xmas to all of the Forum Member from Valley Forge where George Washington Spent the very cold and snowy winter in very crude makeshift Log huts to provide us with the rights to celebrate Christmas in the United states. Or should I say that we still have the rights to say Christmas and not just Holiday Celebration because we might offend someone. But this is the US and I am going to say MERRY XMAS or MERRY CHRISTMAS Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com

  14. The P 15s are among the finest low priced cars. Thousands were still in daily service 20 years after they were built.Your car has a very attractive body style that is, the Club Coupe. It has a much nicer rear window design (in my opinion) than the business coupe. Interesting heater connections, it must be a lot warmer in Scotland than some of my ancestors recall. dp

  15. Very nice car Bob. I lived in Edzell for 3 years back in the 70's. Loved Scotland. Married a local girl and brought her back. The last that I heard they haven't seen Nessi since we came back. We make it back every 3 or 4 years.

  19. Hi all, not a whole lot happening this week, as it twas the week before Christmas. I have started a build and/or prospective build thread for the A833 conversion. Now I hope to post as my progress rolls along, and it will be an honest detailed compilation complete with pics and videos. Immediately after I started the new thread there were 2 who wanted to add a negative slant to the thread, under the guise of wanting info, and anyone who knows the history of 1 of thee 2 , knows they have no real interest in this swap. I did ask the suspect interested party if they wanted to upgrade there D24, he of course got annoyed and deflected my question. I have made it clear, that this is not a competition against a T5 or any other trans swap, they just don't get it, and want to create disharmony instead of adding to the thread, they are bent on pulling it apart. My next thread, covers the topic of trailering with flathead powered cars and trucks, and I am meaning light trailers, 2500 lbs and less, I hope anyone who has a history of doing so will post from time to time, as there are members who ask this question every now and then. There are those who right away think this thread is implying about pulling heavy trailers like an Airstream, not at all, and I do suggest you have a very safe mechanically fit vehicle to do any trailer hauling. Again 1 member felt the need to post in a way that added some doubt to the idea, he mentions insurance company restrictions ( which is good info), to vehicle types trailer type, automatic transmissions etc. While the theme of his post was not entirely negative, when asked about his experiences and how often or what type of trailer he pulls, he does not reply. I find this amusing, interested enough to state his opinions but not interested enough to state how much or what kind of trailer he pulls. I hope this thread grows over time too. So here is a shout out to the AoK Boys, have a Merry Christmas and safe holiday season.....

  21. I believe I read in "The Restoration Bible" by Matt Joseph, Page 100, and I quote: "Balancing is very optional in Old Engines" "The simple fact is the Radial Thrusts generated by small imbalances in most engines are minor if those engines are low speed long stroke mills. Most older Engines fit squarely into those categories." in other words your wasting your money. He also goes on to say removing to much material from Connecting Rods Ribs or Pistons can actually cause catastrophic failure. Also mentioned on page 99 - "Balancing Long Stroke Old Engines is a Fruitless gesture". Please don't blame the messenger here, but I would tend to agree with Matt, because I have rebuilt these engines before and one can instantly see that tolerances left much to be desired on old flatheads back in the day. They tolerate about as much slop as one could imagine and still run good. They ain't racing engines. Tom Skinner

  24. ditto to what he said, and the why: Most lubricants for manual gearboxes and differentials contain extreme pressure (EP) additives and antiwear additives to cope with the sliding action of hypoid bevel gears. EP additives which contain phosphorus/sulfur compounds are corrosive to yellow metals such as the copper and/or brass used in bushings and synchronizers; the GL1 class of gear oils does not contain any EP additives and thus finds use in applications which contain parts made of yellow metals.

  25. GL1 rated 80/90 and Napa sells this but usually found in a one gallon jug..but the cost is economical so buying a gallon is not a problem...last check was less than 15.00
