  1. Added EFI and all my engine issue went away. My next big problem was getting the new front tires balanced. I could not find anyone in my local area to do it. A guy named George Osteen at Osteens Body shop put the word out, and an acquaintance scrounged up an old bubble machine. We duct taped the large openings in the tires and bubble balanced. Its not perfect, but at least I can get up to 50 now without bouncing off the ceiling. Just got it painted, and am having a custom wood bed made for it.

  2. That is an ME-109 and the U.S. used horses and mules throughout WW2. There is a poem written by one of Merrill's Marauders were he laments having to eat their mules to survive. http://olive-drab.com/od_army-horses-mules_ww2.php

  3. Not much done, but at least got it moved to where can work on it now. I did get a battery in it, the headlights work nice and bright, but there is nothing when pushing down the arm of the starter. This may be a wiring issue, but think it explains the replacement starter that has been sitting on the seat for 30 years. You can see the indentation on the seat still, kinda doubt if it will ever come out. I did remove the carburetor, plan is to tear it down and soak it in water with dawn dish soap, just clean and rinse it well. Then air dry and clean the jets and passages and oil, reassemble. The carb looks good, butterfly, choke, accelerator pump all move freely, no rust and the air/fuel needle is in good condition. I just want to start and run the motor at this time to check the condition of it. I have another motor that I plan to rebuild, and I suspect the carb on it is the better of the 3 I have. Will rebuild it. I also pulled out the heater while was there, It had been bypassed long ago. Hoping will be able to rebuild the core, but more importantly the doors are rusted closed, it needs some serious loving and a lube job. I want to try my first attempt to using a tub of molasses to remove the rust. Has anybody used this method before? any tips can pass along would be appreciated. Not sure if it needs to be diluted with water or just straight ... hoping water. Also will check the fan to see if it works. got a few old Ford 6 volt heater fans around, pretty sure they are not positive ground though. Am I correct in thinking the fan motor needs to be wired for positive ground? Any thoughts on the replacement starter? I have no clue on the condition of it, the gear looks good and no sign of any wear. I will inspect the brushes and clean it the best I can. Maybe rattle can some paint on it. As far as I know, this could be a rebuilt or new starter, just rusty and dirty from sitting on a truck seat for 38 years. I expect the brushes to tell me a story. Any tips what to look for would be appreciated also. Here are just a couple pictures to show the real before work, now that it is moved to where can open the doors up all the way and get it cleaned out, on blocks and get to work.

  7. Not bad, considering the newer one is catching up to it on rust. Your project may include repairing, fabricating as well as shopping. Good luck.

  9. Welcome panels are cool. Most parts are interchangeable but there was changes especially in 1951 when the front grill and dash were updated. No Plymouths just Fargo in Canada and Desoto for other export. Yes they were built on the pickup platform and are the same. Best place to start for parts is suppliers in the links directory of this forum and the classified adds in this forum. For general information a good place to start is a book by Don Bunn titled Dodge B-Series Trucks.

  10. on the narrow belt on the wide pulley...odds are the very bottom of the belt will bottom-out and leave you no ability to have the necessary friction to pull the components under load at speed without slipping...a belt riding on the very bottom of the vee has a tendency to roll

  12. I got the doors and windows off the cab this weekend. Boy, those doors didn't want to come off! They've obviously never been off. The rubber on the rear window was so hard, I thought I was trying to cut metal at first. I had to get my oscillating saw (one of the best tools ever made) and cut it like I was cutting hard wood. I also tested out my HF soda blaster to see if it was possible for me to do the blasting or have to plan on having it done. It did really well as long as my air was dry. I just have a couple of small air dryers on that line and as soon as the desiccant turned pink from blue, the soda just about stopped flowing. I will say though as long as my air was dry, it was doing a great job. So, I have to upgrade my air drying, which I already knew I had to do anyway. I was able to strip several coats of paint and primer off down to metal in about 10 minutes from the inside door. The doors are in pretty good shape, except the bottom of both doors are completely rusted out. However, the door skins are in really good shape and straight, with just a little rust at the bottom.

  13. I got the new clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, spring and transmission installed. I also got the pedals back on and testing my clutch. The clutch works, so that's good. I also got a new thermostat and water pump installed this week.
