  3. Finally got new wheels and tires for my truck. US Wheel part number 455-5615 fits. They are a 15 by 6 wheel with both a 5x5 and 5x5.5 bolt pattern. The offset is 6 and the backspacing is 3.75 with a bore of 95.25. The wheel fit nicely and have allowed me to switch to radial tires from the bias ply I was running. World of difference in the ride and the amount of vibration I was experiencing. I was using the original wheels with the 700-15 bias ply tires. Now I have 205/75 R15 tires which also lowered the truck a little over 2 inches - something I needed in order to get the truck in my garage - there is a slope and such making it a challenge. The wheels can be ordered with beauty rings and hubcaps. The original hubcaps will not fit so new ones are a must, I will be putting the ones I ordered on after I apply some Doge lettering to them. So, here ya go for any B4C 3/4 ton truck owners looking for wheels. Tom

  4. I live on the northeast side of Hartford, so not too far from your rally starting point. If you need any tools, garage space or possibly MOPAR specific parts while you're in the area, I'd be glad to lend a hand. Hopefully you won't have any issues but I'll PM my cell i# n case you do need something. Best of luck with the rally!

  5. Clayton and Rich met up again at Hershey. Hope more members can plan to attend this great event. You never know what you will find each year. I scored a Panel light switch for my 39 desoto and also purchased two water distribution tubes one 23 and the other 25 inch's for $15. Then the same vender had a almost new Borg and Beck Pressure plate for my 39 Desoto. He then told me that I could have the unit for the $5 in change that he gave me back form the purchase of the two tubes. So for $5 i had to carry the PP back to my site but well worth the walk. This goes into my supply of parts. Also got several 11 and 10 inch deadlocker wiper blades. 10 inch is the proper size but the 11 inch fits and provides more area on the windshield to remove the rain. Also purchased a 1960 Dorman Parts catalog that show a lot of the replacement parts that they carried for our cars. Great reference catalog, got this for a $1 almost brand new. Had the pleasure of meeting with Ed Speigel from Pittsburgh. great MoPar vender Did well in selling some of my 39 parts. Rich hartung desoto1939@aol.com

  6. Everything else being equal water has better thermal transfer characteristics than any mixture of coolant and water. We're coolant and that's mostly a misnomer shines is in Corrosion Prevention and not freezing as easily. Depending on the type of coolant it can run hotter without boiling over as well. But unless your car is on the edge of overheating with coolant running straight water is always a bad idea. At the temporary measure once you fix the leak to get you home sure to run it all the time that's a great way of asking for a lot of crud in your cooling system

  8. I have rehab'd these original sockets with aftermarket sockets by swapping out the spring and lead...it's economical and quick turnaround time for something that no one will see, and I get the best of both worlds by using the original socket that is of heavier duty construction than the new ones.

  9. My Build Card from the Chrysler Museum told me my D-24 was from a dealer in White Plains NY. It's been years but I finally found something ( Ebay ) to connect my Dodge to that Dealership. Still, I'll be searching Hershey for a badge or plate frame from this dealer.

  10. my car has a chrome nameplate on the lower left of the trunk. "Johnnys Oaklyn New Jersey". not there anymore. i lived on long island when i first got my 54 chrysler and wanted to take the car there, but no point now. i would like to take it to a drive in, but those are mostly gone the way of the old dealerships. dennis

  11. Are you talking about the heat riser assembly in the manifold? If so it depends on whether you drive in cold weather. It helps warm up the carb. Andy Bernbaums offers a rebuild kit for them if you decide to go that route. To answer your question though it also depends on whether it’s stuck open or closed. If it’s open and allows hot air to the base of the carb you could have problems in warm weather with fuel boiling.

  12. I did the same. Set my first one up too tight I guess. I smelled something. I figured it must be the pulp mill in town. I kept driving. At the next street light at a red light the magic smoke was quaffing up into the cab. WTH! I pulled over and laid under my Plymouth, in some gravel. I used my handy leather man pliers in the glove box to back off the adjuster nut. I didn’t see any flames. I was probably seconds away from them though. As you can see, many of us have been there too!

  15. I am fortunate to know the original dealerships that both of my 1938 cars came from. In British Columbia Canada, Begg Motors was BC’s very first automobile dealership. They had a branch in Vancouver BC where my ‘38 Chrysler was sold. Jump on a ferry across the Georgia Strait (a considerable feat) in 1938 to Vancouver Island. There was a Begg Motors in Victoria BC also. My cars lived in those areas for all those years until I came along. I drove and ferried to Victoria to buy and load up my 1938 Plymouth. I found the “Begg Motors Victoria” dealership badge nailed down on the engine wall down by the shifter knob base. A couple years later I hauled a trailer to Vancouver BC to pick up my 1938 Chrysler. I found another Begg Motors badge in the same place. This badge said “Vancouver” location on it. Both cars reside now in an arid area of BC’s southern interior. In my care. If I win the lottery I’ll get a DeSoto, and Dodge. Maybe a truck too. Build my own replica Begg dealership. Couple old of gas pumps outside. A showroom for them all. Wouldn’t that be awesome.? Here is a photo of the actual old Begg dealership in Vancouver back in the day. These old things still make me giddy. Money and common sense are the only things holding me back. Lol. Good chance one of the mechanics in this photo prep’d my Chrysler, after is arrived on the train from Windsor Ontario. Here’s my dealer plate.
