Window Crank for 49 1st series Chrysler New Yorker

I have a 1949 1st Series Chrysler New Yorker with a window crank which has a broken tension spring for the flipper for the window crank.  The handle stem is there in place and keeping the acrylic window handle flipper is becoming impossible when the tension spring is not holding the tension needed to keep the flipper from falling off.  I have tried attaching fishing line on either side of the pin but with the movement of the handle the line falls off and then the flipper falls off.  How can I place the window crank flipper on and keep it in place when the broken tension spring is not affective.

Contact Dennis Bickford in New Mexico. he's into parts for Town and Countries and can probably help.

Those handles are extremely pricey usually and are hard to repair.
