Identification Number

Recommended Posts

I have a spare flathead six motor that came w/my 1951 Dodge 2 1/2 ton dump truck.  Trying to find out the size.  The normal place just below the head on the block cannot be read.  Is there another place I might find this number to determine what I have?  Thanks in advance.

look for the block casting number....this will ball park you but as the blocks often see different displacements based on the stroke of the crank, you will then have to gauge the stroke through the access plug at #6 cylinder to determine original displacement.

clean the block area again and wipe a coat of oil on the number pad and check the number again with a pen light from different angles....typically the first three/four digits are all you need.
