Can anyone tell me if this is the right carb for my 51 coronet with gyromatic transmission. It is a stromburg and says 382884 It doesn't appear to have anywhere to connect the transmission wires. The car was gone for several years and the trans shifted before but I git it back after 12 years and am thinking they swapped the carb out. The wires are just going nowhere.

That's not the correct Stromberg carb.

It should have the little black round anti-stall solenoid sticking out the side of the fuel bowl..and a kick down plunger.

Correct carb is # BXVES-3

The carb bowl is unique to the BXVES-3 carb... butI notice on your carb you do have the solenoid mounting.

Now all you need is to find a solenoid!

Ok so the search for a solenoid is on! Lol. Only way i have been able to drive it so far is to use low gear to get moving (using the clutch) and then shifting to high (again with clutch). I figure im only using what would be 1st and 3rd gear. Possibly 2nd and 4th... not really sure. Im worried about doing damage if i keep driving like that... or would it be ok for a little while?

That solenoid does not affect shifting at all. It is to prevent stalling when coming to abrupt stops.

The trans should up shift without any electronics hooked up. Downshifting won’t happen. I’m not sure from the picture what’s missing. Carb should be stromberg bxves. Try starting off in high gear and let off gas to see if it upshifts. If so you should be okay driving it, you’ll just need to push the clutch in when you stop.

Thank you. She wont upshift at all. Also cant stop without putting clutch in. Also tried starting in high range and it barely wants to move and really drags down. It used to work perfect years ago but since then the carb has been worked on and possibly replaced. It sat for 12 years. (Can was gone from me for 12 years) I changed the fluid as well. If its not that i would think its one of the 2 controls on the transmission itself. Sorry I don't know their exact names of top of my head. This is the last item i need to address to make her a good regular weekend runner!

Time to go through the "MyMopar" Mr tech films and figure out whats wrong and fix it right.

View these films... Volume 2 No.11.... How The Hydraulically Transmission Operates

Volume 2 No 12.... Hydraulic Transmission maintenance

Volume 4 No. 1.....Trouble-Shooting In The Hydraulically Operated Transmission

These most important M-6 training films will teach you everything you need to know mainly  using a test light.... a DVOM  ( digital volt meter) is easier  though.
