Welcome aboard from Oz.............unless theres trick to working on a 1951 DeSoto I'd lift the carpet around the front seat base, find the bolts and undo them......as for the rear seat the base usually just lifts up and out.....the seat back MAY have a couple of small bolts accessable after the seat bottom is out or possibly from the trunk side...........best thing would be to look at whats there..............andyd

No '51 DeSoto here, but to echo Andyd with a note that the '51 is probably not much different - On the '48 D24 sedan the front seat tracks are bolted to blind nuts in the floor, this from the inside of the car - no need to crawl under it.  The rear seat bottom is removed by lifting the front, and pulling forward and upward.  This will expose two loops below the rear seat back that are bolted to the car floor.  Remove those, and the rear seat back then can be lifted upward to clear the upper attachment points, and removed.  Front seat is a bit of a bear, at least in our car, a two person job to remove it without banging everything up.

The front seat bottom is removeable  from the sliding frame,  just lift the base,at the front from both sides once that is lose it should lift out.  This will give you access to the two bolts holding the seat back cushions.  Once the bolts are out the cushion removes by lifting it clear of the two retaining clips. Can't speak to the rear set as I don't have one.
