1955 Coronet

I am new to the forum and just got a 55 Dodge Coronet. Having just got it I don't yet know what I'm going to need yet. Can anyone tell me who might have parts as I need them?

Welcome. This car that you have is pretty rare now, at least here in MA. There is a man in my area that has a '55 Dodge with the six cylinder engine and a three speed standard transmission. It is two-tone, yellow and white. Does your car have the shift lever on the dashboard like the '55 Plymouth's did and could you post a few pictures of your Dodge? Thanks.

Todd.......nice car, looks like it will tidy up quite well.............I'm not sure about those "tractor" wheels as I call them........lol.......a nice set of Cragar SS chrome 5 spoke wheels would help to make the car pop.........lol.......but thats just me, I'm a hotrodder...........lol.........regards, andyd

Thanks! The wheels are temporary. Looking for original wheels and hubcaps for wide white wall tires. Need to find someone with a supply of used parts.

Todd, suggest putting a Want Ad on the forum classifieds, also have you looked into joining the HAMB, there are quite a few guys on there that maybe able to help.........hard to tell in the pics but if your car doesn't have the locating pin on the brake drums then any 14" Mopar or Frod wheel will fit, and I know that there used to be aftermarket 50's Dodge Lancer hubcaps or similar styled caps made that should fit standard 14" rims..........there used to be a company called Night Prowlers who specialised in 50's hop up stuff ...........wide whites and chromies always help...........lol.........this was my 41 Plymouth since sold...........andyd

My wife and I were in La Mess(San Diego) and sighted a 1955 Dodge 2 Door with a hemi and a automatic with the one year only shifter on the dash.  The car was parked In front of Soup Plantation.  It was satin black with flames on the nose.  A really awesome car!!!

 

It appeared to be a grandpa taking his grandson and granddaughter out on a cruise.  I wish I took pics of it....

Todd,

  Try this guy for rims and wheel covers etc. He has lots of vintage Mopar stuff. I bought rims and other parts for my 1967 Plymouth Fury's from him. He is a nice person and great to deal with.

Todd...whilst they may not be genuine mopar hubcaps there are various aftermarket ones sold by Speedway Motors which would be 50's era correct..............andyd

   Ensure that the Ford wheel doesn’t rock on the Chrysler product’s hubs. Be aware that the center hole (often referred to as the register) of a Ford wheel’s abit smaller than that of a Chrysler product wheel. Chrysler product wheels will work on a Ford with no alterations, even tho’ the register is oversized, the lugnuts will center the wheel on the hub. The same isn’t always true in the inverse – the Ford wheel’s register may have to be massaged with a grinder to allow it to fit over the Chrysler product’s hub center.

Welcome!  There are indeed several places to source parts for these cars, you'll have to be more specific on what you need when the time comes for the Forum members to have recommendations.  In the meantime, the as Local2ED noted, NAPA (still) carries a lot of mechanical parts, and Rock Auto does as well.  The "Links Directory" under the "Browse" tab has many sources, and accessing those will snowball into other sites...at least that's what happens to me.  I'd also recommend searching the site a bit before question time, there is a lot already covered herein, and that's the first thing many members will suggest before they chime in.  First thing to do if you plan to do the lion's share of the work on the car is to get a shop/service manual for the car, if not done already.  I have a collection of Chilton's and Motors manuals that have filled in when I can't get a hold of a specific manual (I'm currently using an old Motors Manual for our Terraplane).  That is a nice car, looks like a good one to work with.  I call those "trailer wheels" - good thing you're already planning to replace them...;)
