Starter Removal

My 47 has two bolts.  I can remove them top from under the hood and the bottom from under the car.  When I was trying to get my pressure relief valve correct I must have removed it 10 to 12 times over 2 weeks.  Unhook the battery first thing.

on my 54 Windsor it took every wrench of every angle to get the top bolt off. it is hidden behind the starter motor body. not impossible but time consuming . not familiar with what a moon wrench is, but i may even have some. i buy unusual size and angled wrenches at flea markets if they are cheap. always found a need for them if only once.     capt den

I have to agree. I was able to try out every 5/8 wrench in the box, finally found one that could do a 1/8" turn at a time to get the top bolt out .... and was same way getting the top bolt back in with new starter.

That bolt is the reason I bought a crowfoot wrench set. Hardly ever use them other than that. I take the top bolt out first, and as I loosen the lower bolt I hold the starter up into position, till the lower bolt is out.
