ehadams
In searching for an engine and/or transmission for my current 55 I came across this truck just a couple of hours away. All I have been able to gather for information so far is from the pictures and a quick text with the seller. It has a V8 as seen by the pictures. It doesn't have any wheels. He is asking $1000 which for most anything else I wouldn't even consider, but knowing that I can not find these around here I am thinking about looking at it. Any thoughts as to whether you think the engine would be salvagable? Is the price way too high? I am very new to this classic truck scene, but have been into classic motorcycles for a while. Any thought would be appreciated. I have hopefully correctly attached pictures for everyone to see.
JBNeal
A grand is kinda high for my taste for such a chewed up buggy, unless that glove box had a valid title and a bag with 500 bucks in it
59bisquik
In my neck of the woods, that's a pretty good price for a truck like that. Looking at a stock truck, that should be a 259 poly head V8. It's a nice little engine, but the price to overhaul one is right up there with the Hemis. They do make a few go fast parts for that engine also. I guess it depends on what your budget is and the plan for the truck. A 318-360 wouldn't be period correct but easier to get parts for. The 259 is period correct and is hot rod cool at shows instead of a modern engine or run of the mill SBC.
Rjpond
I’m also working on a 1955 pickup. My truck sat outside for a number of years and it’s 259 remains froze up. Which gives me a headache. If you go to the look at the parts truck, I would be interested in making you an offer for the V8 hood emblem and the tailgate if in good condition. Here in Indiana, I missed out on a 1956 dodge truck that was tore down but the parts and correct V8 engine were very useable. Sold for $1000
