Does anyone know when ply went from starter rod through the firewall to operate starter to the key operated starter. Would like to convert my 1937 ply to eliminate the hole in the fire wall. Thanks

data varies on many of the Mopar cars...dash mounted witches were shown as early as 38 on Chrysler, 36 on Desoto and Ply and Dodge was not till 46 model year...but the very common switch used by the entire line up entered service in 41 on Chrysler, 42 on Desoto and 46 for all others...

As I remember on Plymouth's anyway, 1942 was the last year the foot pedal starter set up was used. 1946 - early 1949 (P15 Plymouth's) used the dashboard mounted button to activate the starter. When the later restyled Plymouth models came out in 1949, the starter  was activated by turning the ignition key  all the way to the right. It was part of the ignition switch.  I myself kinda liked the old foot pedal starter, pretty basic design but my feeling.
