Young Ed
sounds like it's probably from a state that titled on the engine number rather than serial #. Often those states would stamp their own numbers in the case of engine replacement and then assign a matching title to the #
Kip41
If that is the case is there other numbers somewhere on the motor that would help identify what the motor is.
greg g
Is it 23 1/2 inches long or 25? In the head over #6 cylinder is a threaded pipe plug, removing it will allow you to insert a piece of stiff wire. Remove the spark plugs and manually rotate the engine. Measure the movement as the wire follows the piston. Make sure your wire is about seven inches long. In a 23.5 engine 4 3/8 is a 218, 4 5/8 is a 230. Assuming of course it is a post 1941 production. Chrysler sold unnumbered blocks to rebuilders,so to echo the thought above this was a replacement unit assigned a number by the State of Utah. Sometimes you can find a duplicate original engine number on the frame behind the driver side rear wheel. Some serious effort with a wire brush is necessary to reveal it. Kip41
Thanks I will check that out I did measure the block it is a 23 1/2". There are some numbers on top of the motor (1311810-5) By the rear driver side do they identify the motor or are they just part numbers thanks. greg g
If they are raised from the block they are Casting shop numbers likely, but blocks were sometimes in inventory for a couple years before being assembled then mated to a chassis.
