thrashfit
Hi All, I am in the process of repairing my fuel tank on my 1954 Dodge pickup truck, C-1-B6 218l, The tank was bolted to the chassis cross member and bracket but I have seen photos of a tank held in with bolts and springs........or am I still dreaming about my truck ?? Is there any truth in the spring version ? Thanks, Dave
Jerry Roberts
My truck is older than yours so I can't say for sure , but my gas tank is mounted with springs on one end ( two springs ) . This is so when the truck frame flexes , there is some ' give ' and nothing breaks .
thrashfit
Thanks Jerry, Would that be on the short bracket ? Any chance of a photo ? no rush as tank not fully repaired yet, Cheers, Dave
59bisquik
The rear of the tank is solid mounted to the frame. The front is mounted with bolts and springs. I can't seem to find the picture of that right now unfortunately. I can look again when I get home.

Desotodav
Dave, try a search on 'gas tank springs' at the search field in the top right corner of your screen and that should return a number of threads with the information you require. 59bisquik
The 54+ has the springs in the front and does not have a separate bracket. It bolts right to crossmembers. However, the springs are still installed like above. In the front, the gas tank sits on the crossmember and the springs are installed like above. In the rear, it hangs from the crossmember and is solid bolted and the nuts are welded into the crossmember.
thrashfit
Thanks again lads, I am gradually getting the picture, I will get the tank sealed and then install it so all your advice and photos are most welcome. As I said before there are many many more questions I need to ask but one step at a time.......Cheers from a happy Dave in the ole UK.. This kinda baffles me....I understand you are a C series, not B series....but the concept should be the same since the gas line is leading to the front. I have a 1955 1.5 ton so that won't help, but I will take a closer look at the 54-60 trucks that stop by this coming April (hopefully yours will be there too, lol). 48D
59bisquik
You just never know... depends on how the swap is going and the schedule for Viva. As for the fuel line, mine doe not look like the picture above either. It comes out of the middle on the top of the tank. I am pretty certain that those springs are there to keep torsional twist in the frame from deforming the tank. If you look at it from this point it wouldn't really matter which end of the tank the springs were on. These frames actually "twist" a fair amount as they go down the road.
