Correct Color for my Engine and 12 volts

Recommended Posts

The engine in my '53 appears to be once painted a 'silver'.

I am just curious as is this the correct color, or did someone previously do this.

Also, I'm assuming all mounts/brackets etc. are just black ??

As far as 12v conversion, I was going to remove stock Generator mount, and fab up a mount for a GM style that I have in stock.

Unless someone has an inexpensive route to convert stock gen to 12volt

Silver is the correct color.  Since you are converting I would just go with the alternator of your choice but the generator can be converted and a later regulator installed.  If you really have money burning a hole in your pocket you could call Power Gen and get their alternator that looks like a generator.  The HAMB had an article a while back about people putting small foreign alternators in the OE generator cases.  Either way, several choices.  I just ran a GM 12v alternator on mine and fabbed a bracket that used the original gen mount, easy peasy.

There are several threads on this topic, poke around and see what you see.  Predominant colors are silver and black.  Mostly silver. When it's all said and done, unless you are doing a full on restoration, doing what you want and how you want is always an option.
