Timing gear

Recommended Posts

While listening to my truck  engine run with a new friend, I commented on my engine noise. I said I think I hear a slight whine, do you? Hr put his hand on the timing chain cover and asked if I had put on a new chain,I replied "no, it met recommended play". He then said the last half of wear is fast, old school mechanics nearly always changed that chain, which he thought was the cause of my engine noise, not the fan as I thought.

Any thoughts on this?

Loosen fan belt, then start it up for a short time. Will let you know if it's the fan making the noise.
