727 trans in a 54 dodge pickup

Recommended Posts

...a couple of random thoughts.....

You need to be aware of the pre-62 vs. post-63 block, crankshaft and transmission differences as they will not interchange.

It is not reasonable to expect an exact bolt-in crossmember to exist for a transmission that was many years away.

You might find some usable info here:  http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/52-dodge-b3b-hemi-project.742584/

I read per a mopar website that the distance from the bell housing/block joint to the actual rear mount that is the tranny mount itself is same regardless if auto or standard, 6/8 TILL the introduction of the A500/A518 and later trannies...you  may wish to verify this...sorry but I did not earmark that source from long ago...searching these parameters online may make for a fast fact find..

Since your 54 has a transmission crossmember that the 53 and earlier dont have, it might not be all that difficult. The rear engine mounts are attached to the rear of the bell housing and sit on the crossmember. Its possible that you could fab up a simple bracket from that crossmember to the 727 mount since that tranny is pretty short.
