 You will have a well charged battery. It did not over heat did it... boil lotsa acid ?

voltage is one thing. current is yet another..most off the shelf chargers have a trickle rate of 2A and a faster charge rate of 6A...it is best to charge at the lower 2A rating for longer period and yes correct voltage...but 6A for one hour only,...you should really be ok as long as your plates were submersed in acid at the time...

 your 6V/12V move probably went better than mine.

 

A while back I had a couple of 6V sealed beam headlamps that I wanted to check.  I have a 6V charger that I generally use for testing 6V stuff.

 

I was in a hurry, and did not want to dig the charger out to plug in for a simple quick test. It was much quicker to just use the battery in the ATV as it was sitting right there.  You can probably guess how that worked out. Fortunately I figured it out quickly, and was able to save 1 headlamp.
