Rubbercooke
Will a 50 m6 work in place of a 49? Pictures look the same but the e-brake drum looks different unless they swap. Looking for a spare.
Dodgeb4ya
There is an early and a late 1950 M-6 trans. You need the external e-brake band for a 1949 car. Early 1950 cars also use the external e-brake band. May of 1950 and later cars use the 2 shoe internal brake drum e-brake transmission.. Rear trans drum u-joints can differ on the M-6 trans also. Carefully check what you are swapping.
James_Douglas
I have several of those in my spares. I think, I do not know, that you could swap the extension housings and it would work. BUT, I have not had both on my bench at the same time to know for sure...They may have used a different or longer shaft for the drum version. Of course, you could swap it and then have the driveshaft changed to fit the new output yoke and length... James
