B1B Rear Axle Ratio

Recommended Posts

I looked on the rear axle where the ratio is supposed to be stamped, and did not find a number I expected. Mine is stamped 6 F. Does anyone have any idea what this means? I was expecting to find 3.73, 4.1, 4.3, or 4.78. My truck is a 1949 B1B X truck, which means it is a B1B with a B2B serial number, sort of a B1.5B or 1949-1/2 truck.

6F might be a production code...when in doubt, you can jack up the rear axle and spin a tire one revolution, counting revolutions of the pinion (marking the tire & pinion with a yellow grease pencil might help)...that'll get ya close, but my $ is on it being a 4.1...another X truck--SWEET
