lahti35
I was doing some poking around on the net and ran across some '49-'50 pics of stock car/nascar and found these Plymouths. Got me wondering how well these little flathead 6's did against the other makes of the era... I don't know much about nascar but it seams like it would be fun to recreate a racer for a car show... something different than the blinged out hotrods you typically see... Young Ed
I believe Plymouth finished second in points in 1950.
pflaming
Mopar would have finished first if 48 Dodgers truck would have been there!!!

greg g
They did well due to two factors, good gas mileage, and less wear on tires. I believe the Petty's used 8 or 10 ply truck tires in races and spent a lot less time in the pits than the bigger, heavier cars like Hudsons, Olds, and Buicks. ACJCF2
Johnny Mantz won the first Southern 500 at Darlington in a Plymouth coupe. Truck tires were used for better wear. His car started 50th out of 75. The driver could run WOT in the corners and won by attrition. lahti35
If you're talking about the second car in the first photo in post #7 that's a 4 door.
lahti35
Must be a phantom driver here... that or he's already been ejected out the front window!
Niel Hoback
Indeed, #49 is a 49 4 door!
greg g
The thrill show drivers laid down on the front seat before impact, precisely to avoid being ejected.
Young Ed
Looks like the car being crushed is another mopar. 40-41 Plymouth?
Furylee2
I was thinking the same thing Ed. Bumper guards and tail light make me think 40 Plymouth.
