Lloyd
Hey everyone, I'm rebuilding my carburetor and was about to drop the accelerator pump in, its leather. Seems I read on one of these posts that it was suppose to be oiled or soaked in something first. It surely doesn't go in dry does it? Lloyd
Just found the post by Don. Did state to soak it overnight in oil but what kind of oil?
Don Coatney
Whatever motor oil you have on hand will work.
_shel_ny
May or may not be needed with a new one. The reason to soak an old one is to make is pliable so that you can massage it out a bit so that it fits snugly, and actually squirts some fuel out rather than having it pass by the plunger. When old ones sit around dry the leather tends to shrink. They do not work well that way, and do not respond well to the massage.
