David Dyer Posted December 10, 2014 Author Report Share Posted December 10, 2014 I just bought the car a month ago, so I don't know about the ignition system , but it ran really good until it did not. 38plymouth Posted December 11, 2014 Report Share Posted December 11, 2014 This just happened to me the other day. My issue was a couple of spark plug wires popped out of the distributor cap. David Dyer Posted December 12, 2014 Author Report Share Posted December 12, 2014 Well I found my problem! The pigtail be tween the points and the coil wire terminal was made of stiff wire and had broken at the terminal so when the plate would move it would bounce and lose contact! The wire isn't carrying much current as it is just going to ground, modern plastic insulated automotive wire is probably all too stiff regardless of gauge. Dodgeb4ya Posted January 18, 2015 Report Share Posted January 18, 2015 A really good reason to use the proper type of fine strand wire leads in the distributor that are capable of flexing thousands upon thousands of times. A little pricey but was tired of getting the "We don't carry those and don't know who does" or "We only sell the breaker plate" Which is fine except I don't need a breaker plate.sorry for the rant.
