Help needed-Dipstick Tub on left side of the pan.

Originally they were screwed in, repaired ones are normally brazed :cool:

Last week my mechanic was withdrawing a plastic that was in the place of the tube.I noticed the threads inside the hole.Anyone knows the measure of this?

Fernando, do you have a picture of your application?  I've always thought (after Ed informed me) that the cars when into the block like Don's picture and trucks went into the oil pan side?

Most likely that is correct on trucks they do go into the oil pan but if both are 1/4" tapered pipe thread they will work both into the pan and into the block.

True for pilot house trucks. I believe the older trucks like mine that still have a rear sump like a car also have a dipstick in the block.

My engine is a IND 251 25" head.

Why my oil level is visible so close of the oil filler hole(without tube dipstick)?

I only put 4,32liters+0,4liters=4,72liters(when still without oil filter)

After put oil filter weeks ago put more 0,4liters in oil filter.

Total=4,72liters+0,4liters=5,12liters.

I knew that the correct capacity of 251 engine oil with the oil filter is 5,7 liters.(6US Qts)

Did the oil stay in the filter??  Relief valve and spring in good condition to prevent draining back into the pan ??

Oil stays in the filter.I measured oil level with a ruler to the top of hole and obtained 2" to 2 1/2".I think it is ok.

My new dipstick(16,5") was welded on a piece of 608 Mercedes dipstick.Following the measure datas.The tube with 10".Now I will try to solve the oil leaks withdrawing some quantity of oil from the pan.I think I put more quantity of oil in it.That why it is leaking in the floor.
