I need to start looking into booking a flight (FEF won't make the drive).  Any help for the best airport, etc would be appreciated, as would a sleeping bag/tent.

Well....I must have spyware, tracking cookies, or a tiny knome with a note pad.

I went on Ebay to ( pinch my nose, lol ) pick out a Vikings Jersey for the BBQ......now I have MN Vikings Jersey ads showing up

everywhere.....even here! lol.

Time to do a cleaning......

Ghostery is available for most browsers on most operating systems. It blocks those tracking bugs that our commercial spy agencies (Google, etc.) use to track us. For this site it is currently blocking Facebook Connect, Google +1, Google Adsense, Google Analytics and VigLink. Note these are not cookies but generally bits of Javascript that the webmaster adds to the site for various reasons and they can't be blocked by disabling cookies.

You might look into a cookie management plug-in for your browser too. Helps get rid of some of the other types of tracking.

I think your computer is trying to tell you something Tim!  :P

Actually I've had the same issue as of late and even after I go thru and clean things up it's a matter of time before it starts happening again.  I am using Chrome and I go to the extension s and turn them ALL OFF and after a week or so they get turned on somehow (probably a cookie someplace) and I have to turn them off again.

HAHA......I did that Merle.....I hit all the 49er jersey sites to see if I could "fix" my computer...lol

Tod, I know tracking should be bad...but is it? I'm guessing if there are going to be ads...I should be happy they are relevant to my interests. Right?

Either way, I'm looking into it so I don't start getting "Viking  Cookies" from Minnesota....lol.

I'm the type of person that immediately removes the dealer license plate bracket from a car and cuts off any manufacturer's logos from clothes before wearing them. So maybe I'm not a good person to speak up on this. But the business model of Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc. is to find out everything they can about you so they can sell the information. I don't particularly like that and will actively resist.

Targeted ads. . . Read an article about a year ago regarding that. Its a whole science. For instance those mailers you get from the likes of Target and Walmart can be customized just for you. And they've found that if they make everything in it something you want you will get freaked out. But if they throw in some arbitrary things so there is only one or two things you want per page you'll go for it. Another thing, they've figured out if you are going through some types of big events by subtle changes in your buying habits. Story contained an bit about a department store getting a call from a man who was mad that they started sending ads about pregnancy and infant products to his daughter, turns out they had detected she was pregnant by a shift toward buying some healthier products but she had not told her father yet.

So when they start knowing more about you than your family so they can better target ads to you it is time to wonder about where we are going.

I made several demands from the car salesman on the last (actually most every) car I bought. One was that if there were any dealership stickers, signs, or decals on the car I bought that I would send him a monthly bill for advertising fees. My wife told me I almost had the guy in tears by the time I went through my demand list.

This entire internet tracking thing is out of control and I think it will get a lot worse before it gets better. I believe the advertisers track not only me but also track trends of members of this forum and select the adds to be displayed from those trends. As an example there are two adds on this page visible to me right now for one for new Toyotas, and one for new Nissan's. I have never done a search for either one of those cars. I also have never done a search for Viagra or dating services but I have seen such adds pop up on this site.

if you happen to use Facebook and DON'T logout, it will track the pages you visit (even with FB closed) and adjust advertising accordingly.  The more connected we are, the less private we are.  Even friends that I have that are VERY internet phobic can't escape.  With the Supreme Court recent ruling the internet will start to get worse I'm afraid.

Not that Misery loves Company but I'm glad to know I'm not the olny one going through this. One program I'm trying to get rid of is Mysearchdial. I'm starting to think either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome snuck this very annoying program onto my computer. I'm not saying that P15-D24 is a buggy site but I do spend the most time on it than any other internet site and that's where I'm getting the most amount of windows to other site, warnings that try to prompt me to download a fix for something I know will result in more loss of control on my part and more control by malicious software. I'd like to see legislation with severe pentalties and imprisonment for cyber criminals.

Well if you catch em ......... I will gladly deal with them. And I promise you they will never bother anyone again.

I just got through spending untold hours dealing with the results of a malicious email. And a rope is too good for these people.

go find "malwarebytes" and download and run it...I'd bet you a chebby it'll find malware and remove it and your problems will decrease if not disappear.  I've been having issues here at work and we have "top line" virus protection and w/in 20 seconds of running malwarebytes it found 21.  I run it at home about once a month just to be sure.  It's a great program and safe.

Mark;

I will try it. But honestly we shouldn't have to.

This sort of criminal activity is really on the rise. It is because the punishment if caught is not in line with the crime ....and not enough resources are allocated to stop it. The solution is really quite straightforward. All malicious behavior is a form of coldly calculated terrorism. It should in my opinion, like all acts of terrorism, carry an automatic death penalty.  I think a regulated bounty system is probably the best way to get some rapid control over the problem.
