Wet sanding sucks; for sure. I got the back half finished today and put a little spot putty on some nicks and scratches. Now for the doors, top, and front clip. I got the front clip on some saw horses today so i can start on it next. A big plus to all this was the guy i bought the car from had done the body work and primered the front clip, hood, and rear fenders; and did a pretty nice job. The rear fenders sanded out nice and the rest of his work looks just as good.

Almost there! :)

Good someone else made it somewhat easier by doing some on the work.

Love the 49 griiles! ;)

Changed my 50 Suburban to a 49 grille and park lights- smaller, cleaner look!

SOON!

Best,

Doug

It doesnt look much different from the last picture but there's a lot of hours in sanding since then. I got the whole car sanded and decided to pull the front clip apart rather than tape around everything that was black. I think the results will be better. I went ahead and patched the old trim holes at the bottoms of the fenders as that piece of trim is being eliminated. I'm off work tomorrow and hope to make some serious progress.

How did you keep the garage from being RED also??  :o  Years ago I painted my 37 Ply. bus. cpe. in the garage and Everything had a coat of overspray on it including my mothers washer and dryer, she was NOT happy! Fortunately it was lacquer paint and was just a dry dust! Spent a full day cleaning, washing up my mess. We were temporarily rented this house also.

You better be the nicest, law abiding driver on the road with that color! ;)

Great paint work, going to be a real standout sooon!

I got the same problem, Doug. Red dust everywhere even though I hung up a lot of plastic. Luckily most of it seems like dry dust and wipes off. Thanks, I think it came out great, too. I'm looking forward to the reassembly!

Here it is all unwrapped. There's a few spots of dirt to buff out and a couple minor runs to fix but all in all I think it looks pretty darn good. Next Im going to get some of the interior panels put back on and then get to work on getting the drivetrain ready to go in for good.

Next order of business is to get the drivetrain ready to go back in. Ford has a fairly explicit recommended 60k and 120k service for these engines so I'm taking care of all that while it's out. Mostly it's getting new timing belt, outer gaskets and seals, cam seals, water pump, valve adjustment, and I'm checked bearing clearances.Everything looks really good but I'd rather check it while it's out. And it's getting a coat of paint, of course.

I got the bottom end buttoned up; I went ahead and changed rod bearings as they were out of spec but the rest looked good. Today it got all new front and rear main seals, cam seals, and a timing belt. Not too much more to do before it gets set back in the chassis.

Lots of little tidbits done the past few days: I had a run in the door that was troublesome so decided to just konock it down with some 400 and reshoot the door. The rest is good. Scrubbed lots of dust and overspray off the frame, finished bolting a few more things on the motor, tore down the intake for paint/new gaskets, and got the flywheel/clutch/pressure plate lined out. When I bought the ranger 5 speed the guy gave me the clutch and pressure plate and said it had only been put in about 6 months before. It bolts right up to the SHO flywheel. The weird thing was that the entire pressure plate was packed with feathers and hay! The Ranger was a farm truck so I guess he used it around his chicken house. It took about two hours with an air hose and a long skinny screwdriver to get it all out.
