Starter..... Then And Now

but Shel..the very late model starter you show for the Chevy is a knock-off of Mopar's gear reduction drive that the Chevy/Ford folks laughed and scorned and criticized the very unique sound of it in operation..but alas as always for a need of better quality equipment the others succumbs to better engineering of gear reduction starters and moves forward a light year in quality and torque..

the original Mopar gear reduction drives were larger but they did later introduce a lighter smaller unit that will retrofit also...but, the mounting of the GM starter is most ridiculous..one has to use a gauge (drill bit works fine) to install and use shims to adjust the unit in place...GM has a high starter ring failure/damage rate in comparision to other starter that "insert" and mount and not just hung in place as a pure engineering afterthought
